I looked at the Sites for sale section and I found like a hundreds of web sites over the same things, it is either URL shortening service or webpage ranking service.
I wonder do some of this sites make money?

This kind of site make money by putting ads at their page.
Other than that, they also do sell link at their site.

I don't think they make much. I have one that is reasonably popular (about 1000 uniques a day) and it was making about US$0.50/day on Adsense. It would have earned better with a picture of a kitten on it instead of the URL shortening functionality.

Now experimenting with other ways to monetize it more effectively.

They take nothing to launch ... install a script and you have a website ... Thats why there are so many for sale.

I know a really good one that's making money - budurl.com. They've put together paid monthly services where you get detailed analytics on your links. Great if you're using those links for marketing or doing social media marketing for clients. I am actually getting ready to subscribe.

Using these kind of services is bad for SEO because you don't receive a back link.
