As per my knowledge SE always treat as different page for example abc.hlml and abc.aspx so if you change your pages in to html to aspx than it will effect your SE.

Second thing if you keep both pages than it might be penalize due to duplicate content.

    Thanks

You certainly can not keep the both versions - make parmanent redirect form the one to the other format

I was thinking the same, but I presume windows is being used, so could be a little tricky.

Do not keep both pages as this will cause duplicate issue. You can 301 redirect the old pages to new one.

And you will most probably lost your SERPs, and you will have to wait for some time to recover your position in SERPs. Can you tell us the reason why you want to change the extension?

if you convert .aspx to .html then you need to remove your .aspx page from server so google find only one set of pages

As the above posters have said changing extension is problematic. If there's no disadvantage in changing to HTML from aspx I'd consider leaving the extensions alone. There are decent free ASP.Net editors ifthis is an issue for you, e.g. MS Visual Web Developer.

you can mod rewrite the pages and they would remain aspx on the server and google would see them as htmls

You can redirect the old URLs to new ones, or keep both working but include a noindex directive for all old pages to avoid duplicate content.
