Url in DMOZ listing with and without www.

    Hello all,

One of our sites is currently listed in the DMOZ. We hired an SEO company for consultation. We seem to being suffering some duplicate content penalties. They mentioned that our DMOZ listing has our url posted as http://url.com instead of http://www.url.com.

We requested the editor of the category we are listed in to make the simple change... We seem to have fallen short to this point.

So, what problems may arise from having hundreds/thousands of back-links from the DMOZ w/ out the www. infront of our URL? Will all be fixed w/ a 301 direct?

Any suggestions on contacting any other DMOZ editors to have our url edited to www.url.com?

    Thanks,

We are unlikely to change a working URL for SEO reasons.

Jim I cannot believe that you are missing OP point

As one of DMOZ administrators you should be aware about the differences between URL
with and without www and it presence or absence has nothing to do with SEO
OP is talking about. It just his SEO company has no idea what they are talking about.

If you don’t know what is the difference then check Google’s Webmasters Tools and you will
very quickly learn that www does make one.

Possibly, but I think that you may be jeopardizing your listing if the redirect is auto-detected before it's updated manually.

Maybe an editor can chime in and let you know.

A 301 should make things better on your end, as that is about all ya can do... as you may know DMOZ editors do not really care about you one iota... all you can do is update the listing and hope for the best.

I find that comical, as check this link http://dmoz.org/ *shrug* Yet the ODP claims they don't care about SEO...I guess that just means for the sites they list? I guess what's good for the goose isn't as good for the gander as they say.

If an update request has been rejected, what makes you think that it will be accepted the second time?

What makes you think it wouldn't?

Sites change, time often adds content. If you submitted last year and have been updating your site frequently, then chances are submitting again could actually improve your chances of getting in.... assuming it was rejected the first time. And keep in mind, as the ODP has no care for the webmaster, the submitter or contact with the real world in general, the only thing outside of their elitist circle is ASSUMPTION.

To add specific detail to post #2, we are unlikely to accept an update request to add or remove www from a listed URL.
