URL advice needed

I've jusy had a new version of my site published and the developers have coded the homepage to have an extended querystring as part of the url. All links on the site point to the new url but the problem is that the original homepage url, i.e. www.mycompany.com had some decent pagerank and was starting to build good Google rankings. Now when you go to that url it redirects you to the new extended one. I have been told the site structure can be changed so we can have the base url back in a few weeks but in the meantime I am worried that the url will be deindexed or will lose its pagerank or rankings. Does anyone know if there is a temporary way to avoid this happening ?

Tell the developers to smarten up and not mess with your rankings. lol

Querystrings can be a problem when it comes to seo.

You could use a temporary 302 redirect to go from the extended url to the old one.

In the end it might still mess with your rankings for a bit. In time everything should sort itself out.
