Urgent Sitemaps Question

    Within a few hours we change our site from .asp to .php.
    Our current .asp site contains 3,000 pages, but the new php site will have only 300.
    It will take time to convert our the whole 3,000 pages from .asp to .php


    In short, I don’t want to upload Google Sitemaps file until we convert to 301 redirect. It may get us penalized.
    From the other side: I don’t want to get these pages deindexed.

    My question is: What way would you handle this situation.

    unless you rename the .asp extension to .php the filenames will change and Google will re-index your new pages as... new pages. The redirect will help them to find the page, but the filename will change and the PR will start over.

    I would try to get my new pages noticed as soon as possible.
