Hi guys, I'm looking to buy a humor blog that averages around 7,000-10,000 uniques per day, but the majority of traffic (around 80%) is coming from referrals from sites like StumbleUpon and so my question is, is it dangerous to buy a site that heavily relied on referral traffic or for a site like this, it's normal? What do you think guys? What would you recommend? I need to make a buying decision today, so any advice would be greatly appreciated!! Thanks
All the traffic comes from StumbleUpon?! Doesn't look good, what if StumbleUpon blacklist the site, it'll be mostly killed off
If the stumbleupon submissions are done by site visitors then there's nothing to worry about. However if the site's current owner is spamming his links everywhere, the site's traffic will drop significantly after the purchase... unless you do the same thing. Look at the stumbleupon (and other) submissions and see if a pattern emerges. Ie. a large % of the submissions are done by a single user, or the same username appears on multiple sites.
digg and stumbleupon is famous for get the hundread traffic,i think this is natural traffic, and save for ad's
It should worth to buy if it is getting organic traffic because the traffic from social network sites are generally temporary.
do more research! What else apart from Stumbleupon? what's the percentage from other sites? what about direct traffic? I think humor blog is a great niche market... good luck!
The price, number of other backlinks and revenue generated also come into the picture. But I would be careful that the seller might be "gaming the system" with you being the sucker.
Its too dangerous incase someday digg ban your website then you don't have traffic. But if you have time to promote it using other method then its worth it.
Don't take any chances on that site, unless it comes at cheaper price than the market price for that kind of traffic. Organic traffic is the best. But if the referral traffic is coming from around 5 or 6 sites (with some even %), you may go ahead and buy it.
