Urgent: Need a good Webhost Dedicated Server (no self promoting sites) thnx

I only want the expert opinions of those who are not working for a hosting service. I need a good dedicated server site, so far I am going to leave hostgator I was using their vps service and it kept crashing even with bare bones wordpress with all the plug ins removed which reduced memory.

I am looking for a dedicated server that is reputable so far I am looking into godaddy.com with a lot of great reviews with at least 4gb memory and comes with CP control panel or more anywhere from $125-225 monthly is my range.

I need to order one soon because my site keeps shutting down because of high traffic spikes, I am getting around 10-50k visitors a day and I am running multiple sites. And everytime it shuts down for hours I lose revenue from sponsors :(.

Please only serious replies no self promoting affiliate spammers.

    Thanks in advance.

We use WebNX, Limestone Networks, Burst, and Colo4Dallas for some of our dedicated boxes. We used to have a couple co-lo'ed out in Phoenix as well, but I'm sure you're not looking for colo solutions. I have never had an issue with any of them. Burst does get mixed reviews though, and although we have never had an issue, we only use them for our bargain lines of servers. With your budget, I would recommend one of the others.

Personally speaking, I would never buy a dedicated server from hostgator or godaddy.com. That's not what they do! They are not really in the business of deploying dedicated servers. They conveniently just happen to offer them to make extra money. Go with a company that deals with nothing but dedicated servers. Hostgator and godaddy wouldn't even make my Top 20...for any kind of hosting service.

How do I find a site that does legit user reviews and professional reviews of web hosting sites with dedicated servers?

I need at least 2-4gb, dualcore or quadcore, cpanel, fully managed, for around 100-200 dollars.

There are so many dedicated server hosts that its hard to know which one has the best service and quality, I haven't heard of most of them.

Thanks for the suggestions guys, Bursts seems very cheap in price, I notice both of you recommended limestone.

I will check out that forum corey thanks

Hopefully the one I get doesn't crash when their is a spike in traffic. :( hostgator keeps crashing if I get like 10 to 20 thousand visitors in an hour.

    Good Morning,

Before jumping to a dedicated what kind of optimization have you done to the vps? With that, I personally recommend take2hosting.com. However again before jumping to a dedicated, tweak out the vps, as 20,000 hits an hour is only 6 hits a second.

    Thanks,
    Anthony

15-20k traffic daily in site is not much, may be you want look as well if you need optimize anything your script or sites, though in VPS as well you have very limited resources, so you might be right at your decision for dedicated server, but you also need to check wherever you get new server from, what kinda of apache and sql optimization they can do for you, in order server to work good, or suggest you whats in your site using that much resources on which you can work

Simply moving site to a dedicated server might not resolve all issues, after that as well, work with your host finding whats causing the load

    Thanks for reply

I am not savy on computer programming stuff I am just a guy who has writers on a specific subject and put up a wordpress. I was told that because I bought a wordpress with too many plug ins it might be causing the sites to crash because of memory overload, so I removed all the extras that I added like related posts and popularity, but the site still crashes, I have multiple sites on one vps server, Should I get two servers? only two of my sites are currently high traffic and the other two are still in development. Someone else told me you can fix your wordpress php or something but I am not a computer programmer and last time I tried I messed up my site because I tampered with the wrong code.

I need a basic wordpress that doesn't look cheap but doesn't have extra stuff that could cause my memory to exceed the quota during high traffic spikes.

This is the wordpress pack I am using could this be crashing my site how can I remove or tweak them to reduce the memory overload during high traffic?

You can get more servers, but honestly if you have not done anything but install cpanel and go, your missing a ton of tweaking that should be done to increase performance.

    A few questions
How much RAM does your VPS have?
Assuming cPanel/CentOS or is there a different os/control panel?

What does your /etc/my.cnf file look like?

    Thanks,
    Anthony

    Going from Hostgator to Godaddy?

I second Corey's suggestion. Take a look at WHT's offers forum. You'll find a lot more legit ISP's over there. ;)

I always thought iweb.com (canada) had great prices.
I hosted with them a few years back and found service great & 100% uptime on a dedicated server.
That is some impressive traffic, wouldn't mind to take a look at your site(s), can you give the link?

    Thanks,

I have no clue how to tweak wordpress, I am just a blogger and writer who happen to use wordpress. I would like to know if there is any website how to to tweak the wordpress so you can reduce the memory overload from traffic spikes? I lost a lot of sponsors because my site was down, and the worst is hostgator never emails me when my sites go down and when i email them they said nothing is wrong with your site it is loading just fine with me? like I am lying or dumb, they put the site back up after hours of it being down and have the nerve to say it wasnt down?

This why I wanna to change from their service cause they have horrible customer service but supposedly they are the best.

    @Vel,

If I can make a few suggestions to get your VPS to handle more.

    From the SSH prompt.

    cd /etc
    mv my.cnf my.old
    wget http://scripts.rubyringtech.com/my.txt
    mv my.txt my.cnf
    /etc/init.d/mysql restart

    From inside of cPanel.

Main >> Service Configuration >> Apache Configuration >> Global Configuration
    TraceEnable - Off
    ServerTokens - ProductOnly
    FileETag - None
    StartServers - 15
    MinSpareServers - 15
    MaxSpareServers - 10
    ServerLimit - 256
    MaxClients - 250
    MaxRequestsPerChild - 10000
    KeepAlive - On
    KeepAliveTimeout - 5
    MaxKeepAliveRequests - 100
    TimeOut - 300

Save - Rebuild Configuratin and Restart Apache

For your Wordpress blog - http://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/wp-super-cache/

The above changes should make a difference, after that, I suggest tweaking more out of Apache.

    Thanks,
    Anthony

    thanks

What exactly does this do? cause the main problem is traffic spikes and CPU memory usage, say one of my articles gets hot and within a few minutes it gets thousands of readers on the page host gator without warning shuts me down for hours, they say because of memory usage.

So this will help me with that?

You may consider Inmotion Dedicated server as an option. I had recommended them to my friend and he was very happy. However, he decided to not continue with them since his website could not generated enough revenue to cover his expenses. That was a sad story for failed internet marketer who started too big anyway.

Yes this will help out with the potential memory issues. ** HostGator suspends your vps after a spike in bandwidth? This will NOT help that, but help the memory problems.

I think that it will be a good idea to contact current hosting provider directly, tell them your needs and their experts will find the best fit for your needs.

I thought you disabled all the plug-ins and it still kept crashing. Did you tell them that? Think it's time for a new host. Don't even bother dealing with them.

Can agree.. there support should help you. If they don't help, it is high time to change your hosting provider to much better one.
