URGENT Joomla redirects to /installation/index.php was working

One of my Joomla installations seems to have died on me and all of a sudden redirects to /installation/index.php with a 500 internal server error message.

What can I do to recover?

Damn. My configuration.php was missing. I am trying to re-create it (no backup) but I keep getting:
Could not connect to the database server
even though I have changed database, dbuser and password accordingly.
could it be related to the $mosConfig_secret parameter?

I think joomla places another file in root dir of your installation.
Not sure though. just an iDea mate, try it out.

Or make a full backup and re-install joomla over it using another DB and change the config file after that.

as you say your configuration.php was missing... joomla/mambo check if configuration.php exists else it assumes it's a fresh install..

now you just need to make sure all the values are correct for server, user, dbname, host and dbprefix...

My server somehow f*** up while I was changing the global configuration resulting in an empty configuration file. Took me hours to fix :(

    Hi,

In the Root of ur site find the configuration.php-dist This is a backup copy of the original configuration.php. Just fill in the path etc etc andsave it as configuration.php

Guess u already tried that though

Yeah I finally did. It was a rather new site but it got decent traffic already. I just hadn't put it in my backup scripts yet. Oh well.
BTW: I have really come to hate Joomla. It is so inconsistent in the way it handles the content. By god, this will be the last site I did with that weird program. Back to Drupal for me.

if it's a new install, why dont you try deleting all files and start the installation from the beginning? i think there is missing file:)

Its not that new either. By new I mean compared to my other sites that have been around for a while :)
Anyways, I learned my lessons about Joomla.
