Hi, Need help to decide on a dedicated in the next 2 days 1- This has always confused me and people say its done , can I order one dedicated now and after this server maxes out( say resources ) can I add one more server and connect both. and later or do I have to each time keep canceling and buying a higher end server. 2- Also what dedicated server config u recommend for video streaming decent traffic site sub 80k on Alexa was thinking dual core or core 2 , 2gb ram. 250gb hd, confused about port, cpanel and unmanaged Should i go for managed then I guess wont have root access. 3 - currently using ffmpeg moving to bitboov any advice 4 - if i need to optimise DB etc suggest i use un managed root access only problem no knowledge how to handle server basic cpanel/whm knowledge. 5 - debating 1and1, serverpoint, any other suggestions. Rajiv
Go with http://www.ubiquityservers.com for your server. Their support is excellent, and their prices very fair. You can attach two machines by clustering.
1. Most providers will allow you to pool bandwidth(which is not directly what your asking but for bandwidth it is nice). You can cluster or load balance servers together that way they are efficient. 2. What are you using right now? Is it working for you or are you having timeouts, slow downloads, etc? That's really the only way to know. Also managed doesn't mean that you won't have root access, it just means an outside company would keep your server up to date and secure from intruders. 3. I can't answer #3, sorry. 4. You should maybe pay a person with an extensive amount of knowledge to optimize your database. 5. Never go with 1&1 they are TERRIBLE, serverpoint I have never used before so I do not know if they are good or not. You might want to have a loot at Softlayer, The Planet, WiredTree(VERY EXPENSIVE but VERY GOOD MANAGED SERVERS). -Jacob
