Hello all, I started a website (it's a wp blog) about 2 years ago, and it has been very successful. At the beginning and up until a couple of months ago, the blog was mainly targeting a very specific niche. Let's say that it was about mortgages. A couple of months ago, I decided to expand my targeted keywords and jump into more, relevant (but not so relevant), keyword groups. Let's say that I started targeting keywords in regards to house sales. You need a mortgage to buy a house, so it is relevant, but on the other hand, it's not so much. The results were great. Through the SEO work that I did, I am already ranking for most of my new keywords with the articles that I wrote for them. But there is a problem and that's where I need your help. My homepage was about 1 thing - mortgages. Now, it's about 2 - mortgages and house sales. So, even though my visitors were getting exactly what they were looking for at first, now they get mixed information (some of which is of no interest). Furthermore, while my homepage was fully optimized for my main target group, now it's semi-optimized for 2 target groups - those who are looking for mortgages, and those who are interested in house sales. I am trying to figure out a way to work past this both for my visitors and my SEO efforts. As a matter of fact, to be completely honest, I am targeting 3 different groups of keywords at the moment - and I am ranking for all of them very high. Based on this, here is what I thought. I thought of starting 2 new blogs on domain.com/blog1/ and domain.com/blog2/. I would then put two links at the top of my current homepage (domain.com) pointing to blog1 and blog2 so that both visitors and search engines can index them fast. However, I would never want to compromise the current success of the site since it is my main source of income and I don't know what the effects of doing something like that would be. My site has been at the top for a while, and recently it got some additional links under it's search engine listing, so it's the best it's ever been and I want to be VERY cautious. However, to get to the top for my new keyword groups, I would need to tweak many things in the homepage and that may affect my rankings for the first/main keyword group. I.E. Assume the current title is - Mortgages | Learn About Mortgages It would become - Mortgages | House Sales | keyword group 3 In other words, just tweaking the current homepage in any way as to account for the new keyword groups, would definitely be a move that would take away from the main keyword group. Any ideas would be really appreciated. If someone has done something similar with their blog in the past, I would be REALLY interested in learning how it worked for you. Thanks so much in advance!
