After my main blog has taken off really well I decided to open another blog and had a discussion about sitemaps.

I use a plugin called Google XML Sitemap Generator and I had a few problems with my first blog but thought I need to use it on my second blog.

Anyway I install to the blog and make a sitemap.xml and sitemap.xml.gz and make it writtable using CMD to 777!

I go back to blog and it is still saying :

    # There was a problem writing your sitemap file. Make sure the file exists and is writable. Learn more
    # There was a problem writing your zipped sitemap file. Make sure the file exists and is writable. Learn more

I have sitemap.xml and sitemap.xml in public_html and CMD to 777 but the plug in still doesnt work!

I went back to my old blog to copy the settings and have noticed that the sitemap isnt working on that either, the sitemaps dont even exist I now have 2 blogs without site maps.

My main blog gets google bots all the time and normally have a new page indexed within 20mins so Im getting a bit vervous now!

    Can anyone help?

try 644 or 666 for file settings, 755 and 777 uses for folder settings.

I have done all of that but google will not download it at all!

The plug in keeps saying its not writtable!

I had it working and then I go back and it states its not working, how can something change from writtable to not?

Google also states robot.txt is blocking the bot but I have the robot text set to allow

Your hosting provider might not have SuPHP installed, which will allow the wordpress to write to same server.

Can you upload plugins and themese without having to enter in your ftp information?
