You could use an ftp client. For example on windows I use smartftp client.
You must have an account FTP working on the net. For example I've registered mydomain.com and I've payd for the hosting. Hosting Provider give me an FTP access with the following:

    Ftp host: ftp.mydomain.com
    user: user1985
    pass: pass1985

I use these account info in my ftp client, such as smartftp.
The Ftp client estabilish a connection with the remote host and I have full control of files loaded on my website.
