no the worst thing that could happen is you get sued for using pics you have no right to use. Hosting them on someone elses sight will not save your sorry ass. You uploaded them you are responsible and the sight will give you up if they are served.
Why do you not know if the pictures stored on your computer are copyright protected? If you took these pictures yourself you own the copyright. If someone else took these pictures, they own the copyright. Copyright is automatic. If the pictures were posted on the web, the copyright was owned by whoever took them.
I have a lot of pics of mountains and nature that I have in my computer for a long time and most of the pics are very beautiful and I want to share them on the Internet and don't know if all the images are downloaded from sites that only promote freeware.
It's pretty simple. Don't post them without express permission from the copyright holder unless you want to risk being sued for copyright infringement. It doesn't even matter if the site you got them from said they were free to repost if it turns out they didn't have permission. Hosting them on another site won't do anything to keep you from being sued as your site is displaying them.
