Upload site to a new domain name? (And delete old one).

I have a website which Google seems to be ignoring due to a past issue with duplicate content (I think). I have re-done the duplicate parts (some small sections duplicated from another of my websites). I have re-submitted site to Google, and new sitemap. How long should I wait to see if Google starts paying attention to it? It has cached new site but some search results to it are still old ones to pages no longer there.

If it doesn't move from page 5 or 6 after a while, I would like to put the site on another domain name that I have, is this allowed? I would delete the old one so there is no duplicate content, and upload the entire same site to a new domain. I'll then try get some backlinks to this new domain.

Even if I delete the old site to avoid duplication issues, would the old site still be out there? For example, there are still pages coming up in Google for my keywords that I deleted months ago - the page doesn't display of course when I click on the link, but the link is still there in Google showing the page title etc. Do I need to delete the old site first and then upload something different to it so Google can see it's no longer there?

    Thanks for any advice :)

I would never delete something unless I really had too. And as far as a domain name, use an older domain, it works better when you get on those top pages.

If you have duplicate content up, use the Canonical Tag. Right now, only Google is reading the Canonical Tag.
It is hard to say when google will trust your site again. Just be patient and make sure your pages are optimized.
