http://www.realseo.net/ http://www.play-computer-games.com/ and http://www.clearcheats.com/ [very, very spammy] Are all upholding very high CTRs, simply by making the main content not visible at 800x600, but the ads visible..... try it. It really should be common sense, ads above content = more eye traffic.
Hi Refrozen, I like your style. <g> I was using similar ad placement on my site and it simply performs better. Yes it's not very good and it's extremely spammy.. but why miss out on the bucks? Keep it up! I got a bit paranoid Google may terminate my account for placements like that, but I don't see a valid enough reason really. Maybe I'll switch my site back.. afterall, it is generating 50% less revenue since trying more asthetic and less in-your-face-you-will-only-look-at-my-ads-unless-you-scroll type of placing. Pete
Good heavens, look at all the people in this thread I do this now on a few sites and have plans to make some changes on others. Your sites look good Refrozen. I was even tempted to click on an Adsense link while visiting
My only worry is whether Google look on this favourbly. I've just changed my site so the top fold *only* includes Adsense ads. The leaderboard, with images above, then 2 large rectangles below, next to each other, like this: ------------------ ------------------ |...........|..........| |...........|..........| <content begins> I do hope Google don't mind .. I aren't breaching any policy that I can see. Or are we? Someone comment on this please! Pete
I have a blog that averages around 4% CTR. Anyway one day all the blog entries dissappeared (the archive period was set to two weeks and I hadn't updated in that time) and all that was on the page was a single adsense ad. CTR went up by nearly a factor of 10. Boy was I quick to fix that up. Nearly the same idea I suppose.
I emailed Google after I saw the exceptinoally high CTR (lets just say, if I have a dollar, which is worth 100 cents, and I want a quarter..... well... maybe you'll understand) they said they see nothing wrong with my site.
That is the whole point... put the ads in the way. The ads are the content. (until you scroll down) This works good for sites that get alot of search engine traffic. Bad for people that are actually looking for you.
It looks ugly indeed, and it's not nice, but what's the first page you come to in any magazine? A full page ad by some company, and then on with the 'free' magazine content. It's fair enough. Pete
geez... I was happy with my current ctr, but this is a good idea... I already have ctrs over 50%... wonder what this little trick would do...
Yeah... I'll wait for today's stats to cut and start over a new day with this new trick... lets see what happens...
The worst would be someone reporting your highly ranked site to Google as 'spam', and the Google Search term, not in cahoots with the AdSense team, banning your site. I can't see any other downside, unless Google get back to me saying it's in breach of contract. Pete
I wonder how effective this is in the long term. Sure you're maximizing profit right now, but I guess you're also sacrifing many returning visitors to achieve it. I've stopped visiting a few sites with similar ad placement, simply because it's too tiresome to scroll down each page just to see the real content.
Well me personally, my main page is a 'sales letter' page for my info-product which isn't selling particulary well right now 'cos I can't invest the money in a professional sales letter, so I've bunged AdSense on this. Another part of my site is an articles page where I have just a leaderboard AdSense ad, and on every article page I have just a large rectangle to the right of the article. Repeat visitors would visit my 'articles' page, but I really don't need repeat visitors to my sales letter page.. so I don't mind maximizing my AdSense earnings on that particular one... until of course I have a great converting sales page and I can remove Adsense completely from that page and open it up to affiliates to promote. Pete
I know that. But the effect of only presenting the user with an ad at first glance is nearly the same as putting all the real content below the fold. Why do you think I was in such a hurry to get my content back up?
