My webhosting company is saying my WP 2.3.3 blog is using too much CPU. So is it a good option to upgrade to 2.5.1? I put my query in the WP support but no reply yet. Can anybody really help me with upgrading my WP 2.3.3 to 2.5.1 please. I am new and really don't want to mess up everything without knowing anything. I would love if someone helps me with email or IM. Thank you!
It's always good to have a second wp blog on your local host ,so you can run tests and see the result with your plugins.
It is simple, delete away the old wp-admin and wp-includes, then upload all the files of the new WP 2.5.1. After this go to yourwebsite/wp-admin/upgrade.php and it is done.
..Dont forget to make a complete local/copy backup of all your files and export/backup your database before proceeding.. I was helping someone upgrade their WP 2.3 to 2.5.1 yesterday and it just would not go (all sorts of DB upgrade errors)... We ended up having to roll-back to 2.3 and figure out plan-B..
The cpu usage is not because of wordpress 2.3.3. Its because too much sql queries are using up. Try using Wp Cache or Hyper Cache and then go ahead and slap your hosting company. (Upgrade to 2.5.1 regardless, cause of security issues)
ok godsofchaos. Thanks a lot I still didn't recieve a reply in WP support forum from anybody. But i think I got my answer from you. Hope it helps.
Sure it will. However, be sure that you read the plugins read me properly and also remember to set the correct permissions. Any problems? Pm is only a step away. Reputation will be appreciated
Optimizing mysql table also would help, mysql has certain tweaking options to reduce the CPU consumption caused due to threads, generally it happens that threads do not roll back after a usage and keeps on eating resources. May be some cron job or if you have access to mysql admin you would be able to manage.
WP 2.5.1 isn't necessary but just if you want to upgrade you can do so. Though wordpress upgrades every few weeks. Ok can anybody tell me what are the files i should replace and what are the files i shouldn't replace when upgrading? How can i back up my database? Another question, Does WP-cache count the traffic normally as it does without it? pushkar26 How to do that? If you can explain a little more Thanks.
Ok, thanks...I'd be careful with WP cache if you're using GoDaddy hosting. Even with the GoDaddy fix it was a horrible experience for me. Errors galore.
