    Hey all:

    Technical q.

Have a system I want to build with Vista 64. Have 2 hard drives in xp32 system. I want to backup then format larger hd to vista64. What is the BEST way to then get all files on the new HD. i.e. if I plug in 2nd hd with xp on it will it recognise in vista64?

    Thanks in advance.

    KJ

I'm not quite sure what your asking here...

Are you trying to get both XP and vista to work on your computer (i.e. a dual boot), or are you trying to upgrade to vista and want all your files to stay with you?

    answer B

Unless there is a reason dual boot is preferrable

But I want to do a clean format and clean install for vista then bring over the files, dont know if vista 64 o/s will recognise a xp32 drive

Why not just buy a new internal or external HD to simply dump files on?

You wont need the entire XP files, just program files, my documents etc.

This is what I done, works wonders.

Don't think it will recognise the xp32 drive if it's 64bit.

Your best leaving your program files (unless they are add-ons) and then installing them over again (some programs install a bit differently on vista, and you will need to 64bit editions of certain software instead of the 32bit ones you will have at the moment).

Well I just installed vista64 on one drive as master and connected the 2nd drive with xp32 and it recognises it fine, which is all I wanted to know.
