I currently have a bidding directory in development and the template is being designed now. It should be done tomorrow. Anyways, since the new version of phpLB will be out in a week or so (from what I read on the forums), should I wait for the new release before asking the coder to code it? Will it be a difficult task to upgrade/update the current template to the new version if I do get it coded for the current version first? (just wondering since phpld is) I asked this over at the phplb forums but I didn't get a reply yet and I also submitted a support ticket yesterday but no reply there either.
Usually it takes few hours to compare and upgrade template files from one version to another if there was no major structure changes. Also it's very important how many and which custom mods you have installed on your directory. New base script may not work properly if you have template made for your modified version. If you think new version release is close than I would suggest to wait. But again keep in mind that it may take some time to work out major bugs so you don't want to upgrade your live site right after new version is released... Just my humble opinion...
Well, I'm not a coder but I'm in the same situation as you and I'm waiting until I've installed the new version.
For the sake of a week, I would hold off. Gabe has already talked about a significant number of enhancements to the script which would suggest that 1.2 templates would need to be tweaked for the new version.
I would wait. I am going to have to re-code template, re-code mods, re-code bug fixes total nightmare coming up....
