I have a Intel Core2 Quad Q6600 2.4. its nice, but i need something faster cuz i do alot of video rendering. im thinking of buying the Intel Core2 Quad Q9550 2.83.

Is it worth the money to step up a little like that? Will the speed different be noticed? Anyone have a Q9550?

IDK, I don't have lot of experience with Intel, I went AMD route more tweak friendly. If you gonna be doing lotta rendering, look at wut u can afford, also wut RAM n Video u running? Also look @ MOBO and upgrading PS n fans

I have 3GB of ram right now, but i ordered 8GB from newegg last night, so once i get rid of the old ram, its gona be 4X2GB=8GB total. My video card is a 512MB NVIDIA GeForce 8800 GT. Everything works great but when i render video, it takes forever, i think all i need is a better and faster CPU.

Whats running in background? Minimize the apps, could also be bottleneck on video card, u might wanna think about doin dual cards, goin 1GB or so if you can on vid RAM, also might wanna see if u can adjust FSB and other BIOS options. Dont kno what BIOS u runnin so hard to say where u need to go update it.

Hi Buddy, I am from India and I seen that you have Intel Core2Quad and you want some faster. I am shocked that Intel Core2Quad is the latest one and in India it still not released. I am also waiting for that. Currently I am using Intel Core2Duo and it's performance is best. I think your RAM is slow just look at that it may be a problem otherwise Intel Core2Quad is the best processor.

O, O crap. Um when u boot, does it show a quik BIOS page? U can try to hit f4 or f8 I think when u power up and it should bypass windows. Once u in windows tho, u can ctrl+alt+del and see what apps are runnin in background, shuld bring up a task manager window when u do that command, then look @ apps

Just did that, only 3 apps running, "three webpages" and using 1.60 GB of memory...

I can access the bios settings, but i can only change what process the boot starts at, password, time, etc, everything else is locked. My freind that overclocks cpu's took a look and he couldnt do it. :(

thats prob wit dell, hard to OC, better to have a generic. BUT those pages r using waaay to much memory if they using GB's, they shuld barely be using a couple MB's unless u doin file transfers, then u have large useage. If that da case, u might need to see if u been hijacked.

if you really want faster rendering speed build a CUDA desktop. Yes the I7 is faster however.. You will need to upgrade the motherboard, and likely ram also in order to utilize it. A more cost effective option is simply getting a better heatsink and overclock the processor. You will be hard pressed to get a processor that is worth the money to upgrade if you already own a q6600 as there is little that is more capable for lga775.

Before you make your decision, really consider the Core I7, it may be a bit pricey but that is because it is so good!

Go For AMd If YOur On A Budget , Go For Intel If You Have The Money, But Remember better Number Of Cores Doesnt Mean Better Results...Always See Clock Speeds Too!

Magres is correct. you don't have a choice between AMD and intel because your mobo is for intel.
there is a free download SIW that gives system info and might say what mobo you have. heard belarc advisor is also good.

incidentally, the AMD x2 Phen quads do best at vid rendering. i got 965 because thats what i use most for.
most other tasks intel is superior, even core2duo outperforming AMD quads, if i recall correctly.

oh yeah, if you can determine your exact mobo, you may be able to upgrade(flash) bios from the crap proprietary one that comes with brand built systems, i think!
