Hi all, I recently added a yabb forum to my site www.jbandbenterprises.com and am not sure if there is a problem with it or not. You can view it here: http://www.jbandbenterprises.com/cgi-bin/yabb2/YaBB.pl Anyway, after a couple of weeks, and 367 new member signups, I decided to upgrade it to the newest stable version available at the time. Well, after upgrading, I have not had a single new signup and no new posts. Nothing since the upgrade went live. And I had been averaging almost 10 new members a day on most days up until that point. I was just wondering if any of you would be able to take a look at my forum and see if there is a problem that I am overlooking. I have tried joining myself, and the program seemed to work fine and I got right in, but I'm concerned about not having anyone at all sign up since the upgrade when it was growing so quickly up to that point. I have had a few other people try to sign up and they did not have any problems either, so I don't know if it is just a coincedence that the sign ups stopped the same day...but its been almost 3 weeks since the upgrade and not a single new member, so I'm getting worried now. So, if anyone could give it a look and tell me if there's a problem, it would be greatly appreciated. And I did do a re-direct from the old forum which had a different address, sent out emails to all members, and have had some of the old members log in to the site, so I don't think it is an address or url problem. Just wanted to pass that info along. Any help or suggestions would be helpful, so please let me know what you think. I look forward to any replies. Thanks! P.S.> Also, I would appreciate any members from here that would like to sign up on my board as well. We need all the members we can get being a new site. Thanks again!
I think it is just a coincidence. Unlikely event to have that it isn't working for others. Just recheck your permissions etc for any mistakes. I visited and it seemed, although you had 300+ members, there weren't a great deal of posts present. I wouldn't be very interested in posting there as you have very few posts in comparison to the number of members you have.
Thanks for the feedback. I have checked my permissions and they seem to be correct and the same as what they were on the old forum anyway. As for the number of posts, I can understand a persons apprehension about posting there since there are not many posts despite a large number of members...but...if everyone feels that way, then that is why you get a forum with all members and no posts. People have to post something for that number to go up. That is kind of the point. Every forum has to start somewhere and if people don't post to it, then there's no way for it to grow. So, just not wanting to post because there are not many posts just doesn't make sense to me. But apparently a lot of people must feel the same as you do or there would be more posts. So, what can I do about that? I can't make members post to it and I have posted some myself to try to get the post count up and inspire others to post. The rest is up to the members. They either want to make something useful out of the forum or they don't. I don't know what else to do about that. Again, I appreciate your reply and would appreciate any other comments or suggestions out there regarding the current state of my forum. Thanks!
Another key point you should know as the administrator - you lead everything. It is your responsibility to get people posting. You should post lots of content everyday and push the post count up. Post about things that will get the people involved e.g. post polls. Your activity is key to the success of your forum. This (http://www.adminfuel.com/article-z-forum-t613.html) article should help you a great deal
Thanks for the advice!. I have been trying to post as much as I have time to do and I have posted two polls already, but no one bothered to even respond or vote on them. I'm in the process of getting a downloads section set up, so maybe that will spur some activity on the forum. I appreciate you taking the time to respond and would appreciate yours, or anyone elses ideas and opinions on the forum. Thanks again!
Another thing, don't just go adding tonnes of features to gain activity. You will end up putting too much and then won't be able to support everything. Build a good framework and then build up from that and add things as the forum grows.
