    its very easy

just upload 3.1 overwriting your current files and run the install this will update your database as well

do a backup first though just to be safe

Simply overwrite the old files and install the new version.

thats all i did but do a back up as well

when you install 3.1 it updates your current database to work with it

i am sure this will be confirmed

Just overwrite all files and then run the setup and enter your existing database details, installer will update your database to latest version and of course files are already updated :)

Do you know what does "OVERWRITE" mean?
Simply unzip the file and upload the files...

i actually wanna have a clean wipe out of old files, so by deleting the old one and upload the new one is better, i think. or it doesn't work at all? no one has tried it?

Simply make a back up of what's currently on your server......Back up this folder----> Public_html.

After the back up.......Delete all the files on the server. After deleting all, simply upload 3.1 and follow the instruction and it should be done.

Note: I have deleted everything on my server more than a few times and reloaded and had no effect of data loss. But do have back ups just incase.
