should you always be updating your site's seo or is it beneficial to wait and see if your latest seo updates have taken effect? when do you stop?

If you're talking about on-page / on-site SEO then no...

Did you ever take chemistry? Have you ever heard of a controlled experiment? you know... where you change one thing at a time so that if there IS some side effect (good or bad) you know exactly what caused it?

Well, in SEO you don't have to go to quite that extreme... but similar logic should apply IMO. You don't have to only change 1 thing at a time all the time, but it's a good idea to minimize the number of changes... and yes! It IS "beneficial to wait and see if your latest seo updates have taken effect". You should make changes... give the engines time to recrawl your site several times and absorb them... see if rankings go up or down... if down restore old settings... if up then move on to next change(s)... It should be a slow process over time.

Even if your entire site is reindexed daily I would still give it a 2-3 weeks after making changes to see what the results are... more if you're crawled less frequently. When you make changes on your site, because the web is cyclical in nature it takes several cycles of crawling and recaclulating for the engines to actually absorb your changes, your pages PR to be accurately recalculated, rankings to settle down, etc.

If you're not ranking in the top 2-3 page pages of results then I say have at it! Make several changes at once and wait for the engines to recrawl several times and absorb the changes before taking any further action. As you move up to page 3 and then 2, make fewer and fewer changes at the same time, and again give it time for your rankings to settle. When you get to page 1 I would bring my changes to a crawl (no pun intended). I would start making single changes at the timeand again waiting... if that.

Once you're in the top half of page 1 (2-5) then I'd not make any on-page/on-site optimizations and rely TOTALLY on link building to carry you the rest of the way, which by the way, you SHOULD be doing during the ENTIRE process from position 1000 up to position 1 and after.

What exactly you mean by SEO update? If it is onpage SEO then try to optimize it before getting it live.

Google can take time to crawl some sites and make adjustments s o after changes are made you will need to wait several weeks to see the effects.

I believe once you have your title and description optimized you should leave them as is.
Some dynamic content on a page can be good. Adding New pages shows growth and Google likes this.
