updating cached pages

i've recently updated my site, but people are still using the links in their favorites folder to access the main page "index.html". the browser's cached this page and they can't see the new content. how can i fix this...besides telling them to clear their cache? lol

 

Tell them to clear their cache, I don't know what else would work in a situation like this.

Well, your server should be telling their browsers to re-load the whole page anyway. There's a header for your page called Last Modified. The browser when it's first asking for the page from the server should be checking that.

On the other hand, caches only last so long, usually 7 days.
