Updates not showing in MSN

    Hello good people!

I need some help! One of my websites was on the top page of MSN (Page 1, position #8 ) for an excellent keyword that I was targetting and on Page number 2, #11 for another rather important keyword. My website position then dropped from the first page (of my main keyword) and went to page 2, pos. 17. The site keeps on fluctuating for my main keyword, however my secondary keyword's position is rather stable and stays on #11 which is ok.

I made some changes to my meta, desc, keyword and title tags and added even more highly optimized text a couple of times so that the rankings would improve.

When I check the Cahed version of my website, it shows the snapshot it took on 7/8/2006. It's been days since I updated the title, meta, text, keyword etc after the ranking dropped yet it's still showing the same keywords and title and everything in search results.

My question, how long does MSN take to update the index and notice any changes in a website? Any idea?

If it's not updating the index or seeing any changes in my site then why did my rankings drop? If it is in fact updating the rankings of other websites then why is it ignoring my site? Why am I still seeing the old version? Any ideas? Any tips on how to get site updated on Search.msn.com?

    Thanks and regards!

No idea. I'd like to figure out MSN myself. Rankings for most of my keywords in MSN change all the time with any rhyme or reason.

Yikes! This could have some major effects then :s

Besides my initial question, I got another thing to ask. How often should I add new content to the site? daily? 2-3 days? Any idea?

I too am finding that MSN is very slow in updating changes. Seems to take about a week to 10 days for changes to appear.

I think I am just about to reach 2 weeks of period since I made the first update.

I have edited my META descriptions a few times, now does this effect the period MSN is going to take before it updates anything?

There was a recent algorithm change in msn and I read that the msn people were going to stick with the new algorithm. Sounds like it was better overall than previous but there's still lots of crap in the results imo. Some of my sites were hit hard by this and I see doorway pages in the results ahead of mine and sites that don't seem nearly as good.

MSN is having some serious issues right now, all over the forums people are either laughing or crying about the recent algo change. We had two sites that ranked number one for their most competetive keywords that completely disappeared while the FAQ for one of the sites popped up to the top ten, Go Figure.

As far as the updating your site goes, only update pages when it is needed. And add new content whenever it is relevant and quality. You might want to start a new thread about that though

As often as you can, if you can keep it consistant.

1 article per day of around 500 words is what I've heard the most from reputable sources

Why don't these engines post some guideline as to what they do. I mean people would cater to it, but people are clearly doing it already.

Zee: different sites are crawled at different rates. If your site has fallen out of the index entirely, you can resubmit it and the crawler will pick it up fairly quickly as long as there's nothing wrong with it. If it's in the queue for recrawl, though, there's nothing you can do but wait. It shouldn't take over four weeks.

Unless your site is very, very popular, randomly changing the content won't speed up the crawl. We suggest you update your site with an eye towards pleasing your customers -- not trying to influence the search engine. Note that this is a very competitive area and we may change our algorithms at any time; if you overoptimized to the old algorithm, you'll likely be hurt by a new one -- even a new one that made most results better. If you optimized for your own customer, though, you created something with lasting value.

Hope that helps, and best of luck to you!

    MSNDUDE, thank you!

I am on the second page but I want to get back to the first page! :)

I am not out of the index. I am just worried about why is it not updating the cache. It's been more than 3 weeks now. I don't think it's a good sign so that's why I want to find out if there is any way I could update MSN's cache?
