Updated background image...

I need a new background image for this site racemeshtrucks.com and here is what I am using:



This was a wallpaper background but I don't have a layered file. I want to remove the mesh in the center and replace with one of my own images where the mesh is at a 90degree angle such as this:


I tried removing the center of the orig graphic using a layer mask but it did not look well and too hard to get a clean separation on the edge.

Any ideas or how could I create the edge on the left? Something that looks similar or like black metal with a jagged edge. Maybe like it was cut with a torch? Then I could easily add my mesh layer underneath.

Yeah, I hope I've understood you correctly (forgive me if I haven't)

You want to create a scratch'd metal distorted type effect?

if so, then that's very easy. You're going to need some brushes like this.
Next you're going to need a metal texture.

just simply start with a document with a black fill > place your metal scratched texture on it using a blending mode like linear dodge (play around with em) then add you scratch brushes and do the same as step two.




I created this in a very short amount of time. It's very easy.

To create the edge, once you have your two images, simply use the eraser tool with a distorted brush and click. http://blog.spoongraphics.co.uk/tutorials/create-a-realistic-torn-paper-effect-in-photoshop This tutorial goes over that principle.

Thanks, that helps. I use photoshop all the time but its been a while since I needed a torn edge effect and kind of forgot about that.
