They didn't fix it, they just stopped it from showing... I hope you're right about them fixing the issue though.
So now I'm curious. Is GG an official spokesperson who officially/unofficially leaks information for Google, or is he more like a mole or renegade engineer? Or does nobody really know? -s.
I don't know for sure, but I believe that Google could easily figure out who he is and therefore I think Google Guy has the company's permission.
Google guy is definitely posting from a Google IP, that much we know. When we asked n private about this we were told that he is quasi official. My guess is that by posting in this fashion Google are legally protected. BTW the way the updates are named is not after hurricanes, it just starts at A with the first update of the year and then goes alphabetically from there. The next update will begin with a 'C' .
I was caught in one until February. Several 302 directory sites died in the rankings, and most were taken down, as they were useless. It did fix some problems in the serps. I do still beleive my serps could be better, if Google would get rid of stuff like this: 64.233.167.104/search?q=cache:web-hosting.thechump.com/paypal-web-hosting.html As long as this page, which caused a problem for me, is in the serps, I believe it hurts me - particularly in backlinks.
When I heard they named the first one Allegra, I figured they'd use drug names this year. I could see it... Update: Batu (http://www.honolulupd.org/nv/meth.htm) Update: Crack Update: Demerol Update: Ecstacy
That seens logical. It's perhaps a way of seeing, yes he is a Google employee but "the opinions expressed are his own and do not necessarily reflect the opinions of Google itself". That's also borne out in some of his posts where he indicates that he will "check", "ask", "look into it". etc. He's an employee, not the CEO or the Board of Directors.
I think he has also posted at threadwatch and sew. Not sure, anyone know where he posts other than wmw?
I think he's under contract to WMW. WMW without GoogleGuy would be like DMOZ without Google -- dead in the water...
lol, true. He has a q'n'a thread going at the moment there ... who is game to ask him why he doesn't post at digitalpoint?
Well, for starters, it's a protected forum for him. You don't post "anti-Google" comments over there, from what I understand... they get deleted and you get banned. It's a little like going to RZ and posting a criticism of DMOZ.
So what you're saying Minstrel is that he'd be better of posting in here and getting told the truth about what we think - rather than people just posting nice things. I never realised that about WMW, but then I just read the odd bit and have never posted.
This update was even worse for me than the Feb one. They say it's not over, but I can't say I am optimistic. I'd rather be realistic than get my hopes up (again) in this case.
I've often wondered why googleguy has not been around here. And I think you're right, if he were to leave wmw, that place would dry up and blow away
Oh, please, WMW is a terrific forum and it doesn't dpeend on GG or any other member. Yeah, they sure moderate a lot, but it is one of the few places where I can get valuable information instead of reading stuff like who is the most popular member or if we should legalize marijuana.
