Update Frequencey Question - Maintaining SERP

    hello,

i have a site (few years old) that has ranked well (1-4 on goog) for my keyword - it is generally a blog with about a dozen product reviews - they haven't changed or been updated, but since it seemed to have been ranking stable i didn't touch it -

the past couple weeks there have been what looks like days where new results are being cycled in - and my new serp is usually 9 to 11.

analyzing the sites ranking above me they are similar type blogs but with more frequent updates (every 2-4 days).

i am thinking that goog may not think my site is as relevant anymore so i should start to get some fresh content on there (off site link building is ongoing).

i was thinking of two options:

    1) add more product reviews - but i don't want to have dozens on there and dilute the sales focus - maybe one every two weeks or once a month?

    2) set up a blog at blog.domain.com and have much more frequent updates - just hope goog does not view the subdomain as separate site and can pass on some value to the main blog index and thus keep it fresh.

any insight or advice is appreciated. thx.

Those two options can't hurt however they aren't the perfect cure either since they both entail fresh virgin content which will need time to mature.

It all still boils down to 2 factors.

    #1 - SEO
#2 - quality and number of incoming links

Anything you can do to improve both will have a fairly quick impact on any site, including one with stale content (that was given value to by Goog long ago)

I'm seeing a new trend recently, some SEO people in the know are using Google to help them remove the excess from their sites. Pages that Google ignored or sends no traffic/pagerank to are being re-worked or simply tossed out. No word yet on wether or not "thinning the herd" works however.

kurg what do you exactly mean by "seo"? - as you know that could imply a multitude of things.

and getting quality inbound links is ongoing - although the other sites could simply be outgunning me there.
