I see a lot of posts discussing the new update's negative impact on their sites. I, too, have seen some real drop-offs in a few of my older sites. However, I noticed something else today--I have a couple of newer sites that are content-driven sites (original content) but are so new (+/- 2 mos.) that I hadn't really done a lot of link work. Strangely, I have noticed both of these sites shoot way up the charts overnight. They are for relatively non-competitive keywords, have approximately 100 pages of content, were already cached by google (but had never shown in any search results for keywords), and probably have less than twenty incoming links of any sort. Yet, suddenly, they are performing. Anyone else noticing this with younger sites or were these two sites of mine just released from sandbox at about the same time as the update coincidentally? ???
Exactly what I'm seeing, actually posted about it Old sites dropping, new sites even DUPLICATE CONTENT sites raising which is realy frickin odd!
Personally, I think that new sites ranking and getting traffic is not entirely a new concept, and for that matter it is generally a short-lived phenom; bots find new sites and then generally index the entire site all at once so you have a lot of new, fresh content all at once and it'll propel for a few days, even a few weeks. I've had brand new sites rank #1 in Yahoo, MSN and even Google after 72hrs of being online and then *poof* gone - but with patience, professionalism and persistence they can return. I think these "new site" rankings are not new, but also, don't have sticking power ... good for some, sucks for the new site owners ...
Well... it's mathematically impossible for every site to drop. For every site going down, there has to be a site going up to replace it, so...
