Hi Guys!, I just wanted to know if anyone living in the LA/SoCal Region has received any phone calls about a Yahoo event on Aug 29???. Today I got a message call FROM A RESIDENTIAL PHONE NUMBER!, Area 310. This message said that on Aug 29 there will be an event for YSM users about new products being introduced to the market by Yahoo. They will pay $200 for us to attend a 2 hour session and to get our opinions. This sounds kinda fishy to me because I haven't received an official email from Yahoo or the YSM team and the phone call came from a residential phone number (not a 1800)..... Any ideas, comments?????
Well, I can't comment on the authenticity of the call. I would contact them and ask to speak to a supervisor. Ask the name of the company who is calling you, and if they claim to be Yahoo but didn't answer the phone that way, it might be a scam. Probably they will give you the name of a small-to medium market research firm, which can be easily verfied. Why do you say it is a residential number? Did you look it up and find it to be someone's home? Most businesses DO NOT use 800 #'s for callouts, so being 310 (Santa Monica, CA), a large and prosperous area with many businesses, has nothing to do with it being a residential number. Even if the calls are coming from people at home, this could be a work-at-home call center which saves money by outsourcing the actual calling to homeworkers. The Tarot card industry has something like this, for example-when you call a private psychic, you are calling a system which places calls to homeworkers. Additionally, if Yahoo were to do encounter-group market research with YSM reps, they would not handle it in-house, and might not contact you through your account at all, because the research would be subcontracted to a market research firm to whom Yahoo may have provided your info. This isn't really ununusual, I have done M.R. and respondents are always paid for encounter groups. Large companies like Yahoo pay millions for the research sample, so a few hundred bucks for your participation is just part of the expense. I would check it out a little more, but I bet it's legit.
So the tarot card industry has something like this?... very interesting detail to know....anyways... I deducted it was residential because I ran a reverse phone number lookup before making any assumptions. I called this number but no one picked up.. so I decided to leave a message... then the answering machine message said something like: I was wondering If anyone else got a phone call or knew of a Yahoo event in the area.. I guess I'll have to wait for a call back ....
