Paul, you would do good to request that all designs be in vector format. Having a logo designed in vector means you can blow up the size to that of a billboard and it still won't get pixelated. You'd also need a vector logo if you were thinking of getting print materials/t-shirts, etc. Much more versatile than raster logos.

    Good luck!

Well a lot has happened since I went to sleep last night? This is likely to be a long one jus answering all the images entries etc. so here goes:

kazooki: thank you for your input and more or less what I thought other than the comments about the site, yes the site is bland compared to a gaming site or maybe a magazine cover, but that is intentional, however; being open minded as usual I would be interested in your opinion or any one else’s for that matter on a corporate looking site that looks better? I need nice and something everyone will like but not over the top for this site, its professionalism is important.

Kia Ora: as i said I personally like this one:)

DesireeJoy: I like the concept, and it is an idea with the letters overlapping the “G” but I am sure I have seen that font before? Otherwise good idea.

DesignChampion: now THIS IS imaginative! Very branded and very professional, only needs to be a bit deeper in color if possible I think! But I like this one too; you’re going to make this very hard!

Vanilla Afro: Very simple but colorful, another swing on the original graphic! I like your work but I do not think it is a winner against some of the more imaginative designs! But we will see.

coolwanz: well again THIS IS imaginative! Yeah; I wish I had Globel.com :( I have the UK domain site though and quite a few of the others, anyway; I really like this one coolwanz same as DesignChampion taken the “world idea” and created another masterpiece! I originally threw this idea out, but I am now convinced it is possible! I really like this design and logo!

This is where I will need the rest of the judges now I am starting to get torn between designs so I cannot say who is in front at present but will publish my top 5 in a day or so, need to really think hard, overall though “GREAT WORK YOU LOT:)”.

grimsqueaker: thanks mate and good point; I do need that versatility, be a real pain if I get down the road and cannot increase the size etc. but I also don’t want to limit the entries, i.e. those that cannot produce vector format (EPS) so yes; eventually and a change to the original post I would like the final graphics in vector as well please, if you cannot do that don’t worry you could still win, it is the design I am after! Personally; I know Photoshop does do this but I have never used it!

With; DesignChampion and especially in the case of coolwanz I can really see a flash movie without any hard work “as such”, actually; if I am honest coolwanz is becoming fast my favorite! But it’s not over till the fat lady sings......... :D And there are two others involved in the decision.

    Thanks to all of you
    Paul

Now in all honesty, it's a toss up between Retzseo and Coolwanz, they are both nice designs.

The comment about the site was simply that, a comment, I don't claim to know everything about website design, but i'd like to think I know what a good clean site looks like, and yours looks quite amateurish.
When you put one of those nice logos onto it, it's going to stand out like a sore thumb.

Just my 2 cents, others should comment though as I may be completely wrong!

kazooki: point taken, Can you put your finger on what strikes you as amateurish? Be a little more concise “in your opinion” and not just general! anyone else care to comment? Everyone’s opinion is valued, I personally do not want to do this again for a few years, and the logo is intended to be permanent! It is what will be the final face and brand of Globel.

In order for this to be judged in the fairest possible way all entries to this thread will be part of a board of directors vote, each director will nominate his/her top 5 entries, with several minds on the job we should (hopefully) come to a unanimous decision with all possibilities covered.

If we get to a stalemate situation we will then ask the top 5 to make changes, this competition will be very much vote driven and the highest (or most votes) obviously wins, I am at a point now where I am glad it is being done this way! I know whom I will be voting for to be frank but then that is what meetings are all about to cover aspects I am not personally thinking about which could sway that decision in another direction.

I am just part of this decision making process so best of luck everyone.

    Page updated here: http://fj0.net/new_logos.htm
Most directors will not see this thread on purpose they will be asked to pick their top 5 in order of preference, please check this and make sure yours is on there, the numbers down the side are your entry numbers!

    Thanks
    Paul

I think your judging it perfectly. Nice and fair.

I cannot put my finger on exactly what it is that I don't like, other than, well, all of it.
But, design is individual, and if you and your directors like it, what the hell!

Jamess: The dreaded “world logo” again, I hate those graphics so much, I cannot begin to tell you how much they make my skin crawl! I like the worded “Globel” Though, however, not too sure if it can be used for "the logo" as such concentration has been on the “G”, another angle that the directors will be looking at is the possibilities for it to be used in animation, for instance: “a timer” Boot time for globel, just something else to think about, the logo will be shown as a timer as well.

kazooki: fair enough, would like further comments “from anyone” though! We will see what we finally arrive at, the page may still change yet, we will see.

    Hello all,

I was asked to voice my opinion on the current logo designs, so if anyone is offended, you can take it out on me.

Krates: Although you stuck to the color ideas, they are still off. the blue on the crescent (#2983D2) and the "G" (#0856A2) are a good color choice, but the back set of the "Sea foam" green (#3EC5E9) circle does not help. I think the Backdrop would flow together better with a color of #B0D8FF or any combination in the "Hue:140 Sat:240" range. I like the ribbed bevel on the "G" as well as the font, but I think the "G" should be heavier.

Swaymedia: Love the translucent look of the logo. Once again, however, the greenish accent just doesn't go well for me. I think the hue should be brought over a couple to around 135 or 140. Right now, it looks to be about a 132, but I think that may be too much green. Somewhere between 135 and 140 makes a nice soft baby blue color. Like Paul, I feel the lettering is too 90's for my taste. Now Paul won't agree with me on this point, but I think it would look good utilizing maybe Porsche styled font for the lettering.

Kia Ora: Although I do not like the green too much, it is ver subtle in your rendering. I actually like the font option, but since I feel it should be more three-dimensional, I think there needs to be some beveling on the lettering. No drop shadows though. The "&" should also follow the same styling with the fill and border similar to that of the "G", otherwise it draws more attention to the "&" then it does to the "G".

Retzseo: The only thing that comes to mind when I see your logo is the logo of a text book publisher. The site is for web development and services, but somehow it feels like a printer's logo. I can't quite put my finger on it. Maybe it is the lower-case "G" with the "Parchment" styled grain on the backdrop.

DesireeJoy: I feel it may be too plain in my opinion. Using Fireworks, that logo would take a whole minute to make. I think a little more creativity is needed.

DesignChampion: Love it, I feel that the "G" and the arrow should get "grouped" together so that there is only 1 highlight, it seems that they are warped and creating two separate highlights, when they should only have one. A far as the banner goes, the font is a great choice in my opinion, but this is for an international company and the background is of the North American continent. On your design with deeper color and more shade, it now feels too boxy, I like the revamp, but the edges are too square and I feel they should be smoothed down a bit.

Vanilla Afro: I look at yours and see the button on my DVD player, except my DVD player is not orange, and neither is the site's theme. I know that Paul asked for a bit of creativity, but the color is way off. Well-blended, but way off. Maybe a brushed aluminum button with a gray or blue background, and ring color should be carefully chosen as to not clash with the background and button. The font is good, but it does not look right fully written out, your would look better with a simple "G" of the same font, but nothing else.

Coolwanz: I have nothing to say about yours. The choices of color, fonts and even the "G" with a Saturn ring looks great. Don't change a thing, I personally believe it is right on key. Oh, by the way, you are missing the shadow for the ring.

Jamess: I agree with Paul, although there has been some "globes" and "atlases" used in the other competitor's logos, I feel yours is way too much. I picture a parcel delivery truck if DHL and UPS were to ever merge.

    Good luck on the designs,

    Nick

There is some serous stuff going on in here! And BTW “kc8ual” is one of the directors that will be eventually voting on this competition! So he is placing his opinion to help things along! thanks mate...........

So far my top 3 (in winning order “so far”) are:
    1) coolwanz: just simply like this! (It captures the whole essence creativity and versatility built in)
    2) DesignChampion: (a whole lot better with deeper blues!)
    3) swaymedia: still like this one (Better now with more blue)

jamess: this is a lot better (not in top 3 though)

Ariestoteles: Whoa (what a quandary) Sorry mate, I don’t even like this a little bit! However; I Don’t know if the others will change my mind, can’t even put my finger on what I do not like about it, I just don’t, Sorry:( I can see where you are coming from on a particle aspect but that is about it, leave this one in place for now giving the others a chance to look at it, I am sure I have seen something similar…….. before………… somewhere…….., But in saying all that; I can also really see it on a software box though, dunno? Let me live with this one, just can’t make my mind up.
