Unwanted Web Traffic / High Bounce Rate

    Hey all!

I'm new to analytics and adwords and I could use the help!

Currently I'm running a few ad campaigns but our bounce rate has gone WAY up.. and time spent on page has gone way down..

On a few spots on the website they use the word "google maps"

because of this.. people searching for google maps tend to see the website.. and leave the page within 12 seconds or less.. considerably lowering the avg time spent on the page.

I was wondering how to stop this.. is there a way to have the word "google maps" on the page without having it show up in search engines?

Also, any tips for adwords to make my searches more specific (Aerial mapping seems to be getting views from people who use the word map or maps) and I only want searches that are exact to that phrase.

    Thanks

    -Shane

    Hi Shane,

Google AdWords allows you to set different "match types" to determine what searches your ads will show on. You can bid on a term like "aerial mapping" on exact match and your ad will only show on that exact query.
    See: http://support.google.com/adwords/bin/answer.py?hl=en&answer=2497836

You can also use negative matching to prevent your ads from being shown on particular queries, so you can add "google maps" as a phrase match negative.
    See: http://support.google.com/adwords/bin/answer.py?hl=en&answer=2453972

I'm not sure that I entirely understand your question. Read over the two linked help pages and write back if you are still confused.

    Thanks Cats!

You actually pretty much answered it! :)

However, the world Google Maps and Google Earth are not keywords I've bought.

When I enter new keywords (Negatives)

Do I simply put: "-Google Maps" "-google earth"

instead of just typing "google maps" like I would to enter a normal keyword?

A minus symbol before I type the word will automatically make it a negative search word?

    Thanks for all your help!

If you are using Google Adwords, and if you have high bounce rate, you must rather consider to optimize your landing page. The reason could be that the visitors aren't satisfied with the landing page. Try to make it more attractive and try to provide adequate content in the landing page so that users get what they are probably looking for.

If get unwanted traffic in adwords then add negative keywords, and also check the search term and add those as a negative keywords
