I have some suggestions. 1) Put an ad in your header area. Ideally near your menu. 2) Unless your page is really long don't put more than 3 ads per page. One in header area, one in body inline, and one in footer. Putting tons of ads lowers your CPC. Besides it makes your website look terrible. 3) Don't restrict your advertiser Choices. I turned off sensational ads because they had weird stuff like cartoons of peoples fat bellies and worms that looked like they were in peoples skin. It lowered my revenue. I turned it back on years later and fortunately the super annoying sensational ads seemed to have been reduced to reasonable levels. 4) Traffic. Increased traffic obviously means more clicks. Unfortunately, my site is very regional and when Google started scoping their searches more regionally my traffic suffered. More traffic is obviously more better. 5) Don't try to trick users into clicking on ads. Google sees your traffic and sees how many clicks you have. If they see some weird ratio then they will lower your CPC. So yah you are getting more clicks but each click is making less money. If things get too weird they might kick you out. 6) Another note on restricting advertisers. Some categories are reported to pay higher CPC than others. For example, financial ads are supposed to pay more. I have tried restricting advertisers to high paying ones and it didn't seem to work in any positive way. I think Google already optimizing things for you, and for themselves obviously, so by setting restrictions you just mess up their algorithm. 7) Don't try to create a website based on theme just to server ads. For example, say you want to create a finances site to server financial ads. Google doesn't work that way anymore so this is an old strategy. Nowdays they show ad types based on spying on your search and browsing history. You can be on a finances site and see dog chew ads because you were looking up dog breeds 5 minutes ago.
I thought you meant make your site one people will bookmark and return to. I don't know what impact that has but you have to think a site people return to will have a higher rating than a cookie cutter junk site.
