Alright guys, Question..... I have a mega site, of which I am having the inner pages optimised and not the index/home page. I am to get a good PR next update and already have hundreds of links to my first inner optimised page. My question is..... Will the fact that my homepage has no PR, has not been optimised, and doesnt have many links drag down the ranking of my inner pages? I am inclined to say no, as each page will be considered individually, however would like an expert opinion. Adam
From what i have seen and understood, for a new site its usually the homepage which gets its PR (an introduction to google that I exist) and then gets peculated down to the inside pages.
Ah sh*t with regards to the PR.... Although I can fix that.... We all know a low PR site can achieve high rankings. If I leave my homepage alone, can I get good rankings for the inner pages though, or will I definitely need to focus on the hompage and get PR there?
Why is the WORLD would you NOT optimize your Home Page?? That makes no sense to me, but, then again, I understand very little about the modern SEO world.
I dont need my homepage to be optimised for anything... I want all the inner pages to be optimised and ranking high for all my terms..... At this point I have left my homepage untouched, however can do some article submitting. Will a poorly optimised home page affect my inner page rankings? Will it definitely have an impact on PR? I am going to try and get some PR links to the homepage and the inner pages too.
just do what youre thinking and it will be fine. presumably all the inner pages link back to home? (they should) as long as they do, the index page / domain will likely still end up with the highest PR through being back-fed by all the internal pages.
Yes there is a site map, and you can link back to the homepage via all pages. Thinking about it logically, the homepage not being optimised doesnt really matter, however I am going to have to be wary of PR..... I have just missed the PR update, but luckily for me PR is always updated and facted into the SERPS, it is just Google updating the Toolbar quarterly to show results. Any other comments welcome.
Is it really worth dwelling on PageRank so much? It's all about competition on the search results pages for those inner pages. If they don't rank well for the keywords that you want to target then the pagerank doesn't matter too much.
yep as above just forget PR, get the site structure right, then crack on as though it didn't exist basically.
You may as well at least put appropriately-optimized content on your home page, which is a gateway to your other pages. There is no point in having a non-optimized page on your web site (in my opinion). Optimizing your home page could help your interior pages rank better, as well. In some cases, our home page + interior page rank back-to-back for the same term. I don't have a problem with that. The more pages you have ranking, the better off you are...even if it's just one page. In my experience, sometimes our home page outranks an interior page for its own optimized term; even though the home page has a much broader scope SEO-wise.
As Tara33 stated, there really is no point in not optimizing and building links to your main page if it is the page that links to your sub-pages. I guess I see no benefit in it at all. To answer your question though, no, it will likely not increase your main page's PR. As you made note, your main page is looked at as a totally different website as your sub-pages.
