Unrelated Adsense Ads (Problem Needs Fixing!)

Hey guys, I'm just in the creation phase of one of my first REAL websites, and when I tested some adsense ads, I'm getting really stupid and 100% unrelated topics. How can I avoid this? Is there something maybe in the META tag that will help me out?

Here's a preview of my site [ http://www.phoenixstyles.com/members/shop ] unfortunately, my site (which is a forum skin/design site) is called 'Phoenix Styles'...so I get a lot of Phoenix, Arizona crap.

Can anyone help me get some more practical/related adsense advertisements.

    Thank you,

    Alex

    Hi cipriani

I'm no expert but here are a few ideas to get started:

    (a) Include more text (a paragraph or two) on each page which contains the keywords you are targeting.
    (b) In the paprgraph bold the keyword you most want to target <strong></strong>
    (c) Use section targeting (https://www.google.com/adsense/support/bin/answer.py?answer=23168) to help ensure the adsense bot stays where you want it
    (d) You also have the option with adsense of filtering out or excluding sites you'd prefer not to advertise on your site.

Always make sure the text and keywords used are relevant to the site.

Don't think its strictly required but also change your page title so the word phoenix is much less prominent. maybe - "invision powerboard skins - pheonix styles" you want the search engines to be more focussed on what you promote as opposed to its name.

    Hope this helps

I think bwp58 has listed useful points but the most important point is the content. At the moment, your site has no content and therefore Adsense cannot accurately predict what your site is about. If you're selling skins then have a paragraph or two describing that to aid Adsense

add more text with keywords and try putting keyword or two in title, for example "Phoenix Styles - Browse Invision Power Board Skins"

you need keywords in URL, title tag, and at least 4% in body text. (higher percentage than any other words in body text) Also, it takes a few days on a new page for google to get it right

When you have little content, which can happen when you're just developing a site or are using embedded content, things like page URL, page title, headings and links become extremely important. See my embedded content case study for more information, where I show how to show relevant AdSense ads around an Amazon aStore.

As the others have said, you need to get more content or else give other clues as to the content, such as in the page title and the meta tags.
