    Hi,
I'm new to web design. Im learning Dreamweaver MX 2004. I tried to load a pre-design practice page in the HTML editor and I got a bunch of unreadable codes. Here's a couble of line sample:
    tŒY´CWˆ:·ë‰t~ÆÿŠŸþû$ÿûRÀ P¿[¬¼Il!,)†•r¡“¬y{LÁ܆EcÌRœ_pk&¯ó|²³1T¨·èVc{ª—_ëu˜ó\ €ƒ!S-Ï%uË…O6O×81ž‚I¹$ ¾

I tried diffrent encoding parameter but nothing worked.

What gives? Is this some sort of encryption?

Yup, Joebert's on the right track. That's not encryption, it's just what you get when you take something like an image or a movie file and try to open it in a text editor. There's no text in that file, so whatever dreambeaver uses to turn the image into html hasn't done that yet.

    Hi All,

The file I loaded was supposed to be just a basic index.html file. Though I did get it from a burnt disk. Maybe that the issue

Yes, I think so. File is corrupted.

Same place you got Dreamweaver? ;) Don't go downloading updates from the Macromedia site.

If you plug "tÅ’Y" into Google, you get nothing but PDF & SWF format results. I think you either accidently opened a PDF or SWF, or the file got renamed somehow.

I don't know if the file is "corrupted" per say, probably just label with the wrong extension. Depending on what else is in your folder with it, I think it could either be a supporting SWF, or a sort of readme PDF.

If you're not worried about where the file came from, rename it to "filename.pdf" & try to open it with Acrobat reader. If it doesn't want to open there rename it to "filename.swf" & try to open it in your web browser. If that doesn't do it, try renaming it "filename.zip" & see if Explorer will open it as a compressed archive for a last-ditch effort.

If none of that works, I'd throw it out.
