Unprofessional behavior and Moderation - Mods , please read

Hi- this concerns moderation of a thread that included a person that was sabotaging an auction for a site,
    http://forums.digitalpoint.com/showthread.php?t=311409

The site is an established PR5 with traffic and revenue, and some kid has posted a 15$ bid and said that why it's worth more is beyond him, while the seller has already pointed out a target price of XXX-XXXX .
This is unprofessional and childish, and no one would like such a person coming to their thread to ruin an auction .

After claiming that his comments are damaging , and are "unprofessional, idiotic, and mean", the person gave me a red rep . (which is acceptable, considering his mentality), while the person in charge of the sale thanked me. (so effectively, he agreed that I was not hurting his auction thread)

What happened next was quite amazing - the red Rep I received somehow disappeared, both my and the thread's starters comments were deleted, and I got an infraction, while the person that left a childish and clearly auction-sabotaging comment didn't have even his comment edited to make it more appropriate and not sabotage the seller's chances.

I would really like to know who is the Moderator that decided to edit out comments by the seller inside his own thread, and not remove unprofessional and childish comments from a person that was driving off potential buyers.

Here we go again. I don't think Rob is going to be too please - cue another infraction for complaining about infractions!

Erm - ... I was not complaining about my infraction. I mentioned it at the top, but this certainly isn't the issue .
The problematic part remains the fact that a person tried to ruin an auction thread (and succeeded, since the seller now takes bids only on sitepoint) , got a response from me, the thread starter backed up my response , but the outcome was that his and mine comments were deleted, while the auction-sabotaging mean and clearly irrelevant posts remained unedited.

Comments inside a sales thread whether they are positive or negative are not appropriate. In a sales threads acceptable posts fall into three categories:

    1. Questions for seller
    2. Responses by seller in answer to those questions
    3. Negotiations between potential buyers and seller.

Threads are often derailed based on one inappropriate comment which bring forth opinions on both sides.

    Correct . Absolutely correct.
But considering the fact that this is how a sales threads look on DP
    http://forums.digitalpoint.com/showthread.php?t=310324

I was sure that there isn't much Moderation of sales threads going on, and the first time I actually saw one , was today , and it was a mighty wrong one.

And I would really like to know, who and why would moderate a discussion in such a way.

Let it drop - you got an infraction, big deal. If you've been well-behaved you've still got 9 more to go until you get banned. Keep your head below the parapet and move on.

    This isn't about infractions.
And yes, i do have 9 more to go because I AM well behaved.
This is a community, and I was being helpful by aiding a person with an auction that got the wrong kind of attention from some kid that tried to ruin it (and bidding 15$ on an established site).
And I would realy like to understand the logic behind the moderation that took place at that thread.

P.S Someone Red-repped me with "just STFU" on this thread. Awesome.

I fully agree with you OP in regards to the Site Sale's section being more like a "free for all" rather then anything resembling a somewhat professional venue.

Here's a good example of my thread the other day, the user "aspidov" should know better considering his join date.

    http://forums.digitalpoint.com/showthread.php?p=2916236

Posting in a site sale thread just to say "Who searches for that keyword anyway" certainly doesn't fall in to Smyrl's list of acceptable reasons to post and neither does being called a "prick" by Linkbait.

Yes i was short and ubrupt, but i'm sick to death of having sales threads being hijacked. I've got 52 glowing iTrader comments from the people i have done business with. Maybe i'm just used to years of selling sites on WHT, Sitepoint etc.

Sorry i can't comment on your infraction, but i definately know where your coming from.

Report a hijack thread the moment you see it.
