    Hi ,

I was managing development of website via a 3rd party for a client ( I didnt have any dealings with client directly..)

The 3rd Party refused to pay me and has also changed logins for ftp and for Joomla so I cannot take site down now.

    Can anyone advise next steps?

    Cheers!

Ouch, I'm not sure if there's much you can do. Are they a member here? Do they work for a company?

You should have asked for escrow or atleast payment in installments for each phase of the project that is completed.

CrazyBoy - Yep totally my own fault ! I need to get my process streamlined..
It was a job for a friend of a friend kind of thing.. D'oh!

Kalyse - It started off simple but client kept changing his mind.. Again I should have started off with clear specs etc....

Ive sent them an email asking to either pay me or remove the site content...

    We'll see..

    And will keep you posted....

never hand the project over and that includes usernames and passwords until the final payment is received.

i take a 75% deposit, and they pay the final 25% when the job is complete. wen they ar happy with the site and have sent you the last installment, thats when you hand over the details.

    Good luck with it.

Debt collectors are your friend ;]

You could also contact the hosting company which is hosting the site and inform them that the site is your property as it is not paid for and the site should be pulled to avoid legal action.

I'd say contacting the hosting company is your best option, they have control and are usually very helpful in getting stuff off. (Sometimes they don't even check to see if there actually is any offending content)

Any possibility of claiming copyright infringement?
The work was created by you.

I have a statement on my site and in company literature, saying copyright remains my property until paid for in full.

Print a copy of your work from your hard drive if possible as proof

I would complain to their Host, ISP and registrar that they have used your copyrighted material

Use whois to find out the Host and the Domain Registrar and contact both of them.

look up their emails , contact details on google , try to get more information about them , next time use escrow.com / be adequately protected.
