I have these bots in my website.

    Unknown robot (identified by 'robot')
    Unknown robot (identified by 'crawl')
    Unknown robot (identified by 'spider')
Unknown robot (identified by 'bot/' or 'bot-')

Unknown robot (identified by 'bot/' or 'bot-')
Unknown robot (identified by hit on 'robots.txt')
    Unknown robot (identified by 'crawl')

    Unknown robot (identified by 'robot')
    Unknown robot (identified by 'crawl')
Unknown robot (identified by 'bot/' or 'bot-')

Are bots good or bad. If bad how can I block them so I don't get banned from adsense.
    cheers

It depends. Some "bots" are search engine spiders, such as the ones used by Yahoo, Google and MSN. Other "bots" are harvesters, little programs that grab email addresses so they can be used to send spam. Yours is probably the latter case (any self-respecting search engine spider would identify itself and respect the robots.txt file), and if it is, I'd block the IP range (the whole range, not the address) that the bot is using.

Does your hosting control panel have a "page" you can go to which will allow you to block them (if your control panel is cPanel you should have this)? If so, there should be instructions right there for its use.

I'm in the same boat, how do you stop these when there is no IP address. I too am using AW Stats. All it says is : Unknown robot (identified by 'bot*')
