I seriously have no idea if this is the right section, but since it was the only one relating to hosting and web I just take it. Let me know if it isn't and I will change it. Anyhow, I have a Unix environment up an running and came now to the point of wondering on how to monitor it effectively. I want to observe the log files on the UNIX System and make sure that my system is not caught up in problems that might take down my whole server. I'm looking for an easy to install/implement solution that doesn't take me another 3 month to set up. If anybody know anything let me know. I have some idea already, but I would like to hear yours first.
No one? That is bad! I was actually hoping that someone would have clue what I was talking about? Not even links? What about something like this: Nimsoft Redhat Monitoring? Does this get the ball rolling?
Actually I would like to advise http://www.nagios.org/ to you, however for a single server deployment, it's a bit too much I think.
I'd also recommend something like logwatch to keep an eye on the import log files and also Cacti for graphing things like cpu/memory/network usage so that you can make sure the server is not experiencing any problems with load.
