I found out this morning that a university in America (Glasscock School of Continuing Studies) is offering a course in SEO :silly: SEO Course How long before they make a university course for spamming? http://streetlessons.com/361-university-course-for-spammers.html
The third and last points of the description tells me that you aren't going to learn a whole lot in the class.
Topics will include the following: * Researching the competition * Analyzing and optimizing Web pages * Submitting pages to search engines * Monitoring search engine placement * Reporting and analyzing ranking results * Developing a reciprocal links list for $365 per student? now I see why there are a lot of SEO trainings seminars sprouting up
Never heard of Amir Zaman, seems like more of a nigh classes sorta thing. It's only $400. Do marketing schools touch on seo?
Man, those teachers can´t be that good. They prolly apply all the outdated strategies and tell people to submit the url to Google. heh
For me, I'll go more on Self Studies and joining seminars. Because in joining seminars they share knowledge based on their actual Experience and ha a proof.
Its an important step, though. I have a degree in advertising and I graduated in '04 from a top 50 university - never learned a thing about the internet. No one ever told me about affiliate marketing or Google, adsense, PPC models, ecommerce, even more traditional internet marketing like aol or the yahoo homepage. None of it was covered. I remember in my final project my senior year we had a "made-up" campaign and wanted to involve the internet but couldn't fit it in our budget because we had no idea how much it would cost. I suspect not much has changed. I think that SEO should be taught at universities, but not as a standalone course. It should be included in a Public Relations curriculum.
its a good start but I'm sure, like a lot of other university courses, it will contain outdated info.
