    What is an American ?

    I am a "home ruler".

If you are in the USA illegally, please leave. Nothing personal, it just that my country is a nation of laws. Law-abiding citizens enjoy their rights, criminals forfeit theirs. This is especially true of those wanting to enjoy the benefits of living in my country, yet are not a true citizen. If you are voting in elections, and are not a citizen, I would like for you to turn yourself in to the authorities and confess what you have been doing. Again, nothing personal, it is my country, I was born in the USA. If you have become a citizen of my country, just say so.

All words have meanings, that I know of. They reflect character.

    Your choice of words :

...reveals your character. Belittling and debasing people... is this why you are here on this thread ?

You are a white collar alien, trash mouthing hard working Americans?

You are the one unwilling to work hard labour and abandoned your own country to siphon off from another.

True labours are a rare commodity, conspired against by reactionaries and ailiens to diminish the labourers essential service for their own illicit financial gain and self grandizement.

Last I checked, most municipalities have made it illegal to sell flowers on the street corner. 30 years ago, high school kids used to sell flowers on the street corner all the time, to pick up a few bucks. They also used to wash cars, bus tables, cook in restaurants, build houses, etc. Its not that the kids have gotten lazier. They have simply become unemployed. Happens when you flood the labor market with illegals.

Uh no. There is such a thing as legal immigration.

@Bogart: Funny, I hadn't even considered the refundable EITC in application to the subset of immigrants who work above the table on a stolen identity. Yet another state benefit (In cash no less) obtained by means of identity theft. Grand theft in California is considered a felony and is applicable to anyone who steals more than $400. If we were to charge people like Nikki Diaz with this very applicable crime for her theft of EITC money from the federal government, she could be given the option to return to her country of origin or serve her time. Simple enforcement of the laws already on the books would end our problems VERY quickly. Its a shame our leaders have such blatant disregard for the law of the land.

Illegal aliens can receive as much as $5657 in cash. I wonder how much Nikki Diaz got back this year? No wonder that California is going broke and faces an estimated $25.4-billion deficit

Not to take this off subject, but "Escalades" are my biggest pet peeve. They have become some type of a quasi status symbol, and are way over price for what amounts to a Chevy Truck. That's all it is. A Chevy truck. But millions of Americans have sought them out and paid more than the price of a condo on what amounts to a Chevy Truck.

The power of branding. Why women pay thousands of dollars for a purse that is made in the same factory in China and with the same materials as a purse that sells for $20 befuddles me. You just need to get Paris Hilton to carry one around for a while and it is worth 1000% more. God Bless America.

Its because most American's fall into the "white trash" stereotype. They think once they have that Louis vuitton (made in China) and that "Chevy Truck" / Escalade, that they've some how made it. To each his own I guess. I have no problems with a Chevy Truck. They're reliable decent well built transportation. Too me they are just not worth 5 times what they should sell for.

Beyond this, there are so many of them there's nothing special about them. There's nothing unique. In fact, the value if anything should be much less given the abundant supply of them. They're very Kitsch'.

Want to look real impressive, drive a Bentley or Rolls.

What I've often found more comical are the folks that drive the Land/Range Rovers around. They're just begging for attention. What's funny to me about these status symbols vehicles in America is the fact that overseas they (like Mercedes) are basically "Chevy's". An expensive every man transportation.

Of course for a time JeeP Grand Cherokees were selling for 5 times what they should in the UK. I guess they were what a Rover is to Americans in terms of Status.

But, if you can get someone to pay you $85k for a Chevy Truck, so be it I guess... Begs the question why they are in trouble.

Look at the part where it says; "Would you like your state to adopt an immigration law

I think Illegals should work as scabs in Hollywood, for both writers and actors.
I think Illegals should replace the NFL athletes when they go on strike.
I think Illegals should take the place of UAW workers.

They we'd have cheap good movies. Cheap tickets to sporting events. And cheap quality cars that had some tacky flair.

What an awesome post. The NFL players obviously can't be replaced by illegals, as they are highly skilled athletes with physical features that make them truly unique in a highly competitive field, but all the rest are perfectly legit.

Q: How much skill/training does it take to be a grip on a movie set and get union wages in excess of 100k/year?
    A: Almost none.
Q: How much skill/training does it take to put bolts into holes on an auto assembly line?
    A: Almost none.
Q: How much skill/training does it take to drive a city bus?
    A: Almost none.

We should take EVERY LAST UNION JOB with their artificially inflated benefits and salaries, and turn those jobs over to the illegal immigrants. We'd have to start with the SEIU who actually march in in the streets in support illegal immigration.

Like our Socialist friend from India likes to point out, cheaper wages mean cheaper goods to the consumer, so its a net win! Going out on a limb a bit here, I would venture a guess that 85% of our government and union jobs, from receptionists, to software developers, to translators, to law enforcement, to mail delivery, to TSA agents, to you name it, could be done better for less than 33% of the cost. These people are overpaid and should not complain when their jobs are handed over to illegals. Lets face it, groping people's junk can not possibly be a job very many Americans want to do. These illegals would just be taking the jobs Americans don't want.

Such a move would probably eliminate 20% of the 35% who currently do not vote with the Republicans on this issue. You have to love the hypocrisy it takes to say, "Let the illegals in, so long as my job is protected". Its the same hypocrisy that says, "New health care laws for everyone, except the paying Democrat doners who have themselves added to a rapidly growing exemption list.

For a short time, I thought USA's economy may be slowly on the mend, but it seems that Bernanke kinda too hurry trying to reduce unemployment etc and start his QE2, seems to be counterproductive.

I put that graphic up there to show that lack of enforcing immigration law is not only helping cause the downfall of the economy, it is one of the things that Americans feel most strongly about. The "melting pot" idea failed. Arizona created their stricter immigration law because they stated the Fed was not doing their part.

I also remember seeing that one of the reasons the Romans lost their leadership position in the world was
because of immigrants diluting their culture. What will 2011 bring to the good ol' USA ?

US Senator Tom Coburn appeared on Fox News Sunday and said out of control government spending and the US National debt could be the end of the American way of life as we know it.

Coburn predicts that if his economic concerns are not addressed then “I think you’ll see a 15 to 18 percent unemployment rate. I think you’ll see a 8 to 9 percent decline in GDP. I think you’ll see the middle class just destroyed [and] the people it will harm the most will be the poorest of the poor,” Coburn said, since the FED will print money to stimulate the economy and hyperinflation will result. Coburn also said that “if we [don't] take some pain now, we’re going to experience apocalyptic pain”

A lof of the foreclosure crisis is from people that refinaced their homes to buy expensive cars and to live a lifestyle that they couldn't afford.

I do more than live in my mother's basement and post on the P&R.

The immigration system is a mess. There's as many as 2 million legal immigrants and another 850k illegal aliens entering the US per year. Nobody really knows what these people are doing and over the the years a 'culture of fraud' has developed. Look at the case of poor Nikki Diaz. No move is being taken to prosecute her for fasely using her sisters social security card.

Below is an example of the fraud in fake ids and theft. For $5,000, thieves were able to buy a fake identity and steal millions of dollars.

The legal immigration system is skewed to favor family reunification of sisters, aunts, cousins .. There's a stream of unskilled workers that become a burden on the welfare system. How is someone that immigrates to the US going to support his pregnant wife and two children working at a job paying $7.75 an hour. The immigrants take these jobs because the US taxpayer subsidizes them with free education including college, food stamps, public housing and medical care. Then they even get 5k Earned Income Credit cash at the end of the year!

ID theft, false credit, loan scams alleged in Bergen-based fraud ring busts

A Palisades Park-based bank-fraud ring that catered to Korean clients made millions of dollars through a variety of sophisticated bank, credit card and government fraud schemes by exploiting loopholes in the security surrounding identification documents, authorities say.

At the center of the scheme were legitimate Social Security cards, issued in the 1990s to Chinese nationals who came to work in American territories in the Pacific, such as American Samoa, Guam and Saipan.

    ‘One-stop shopping’

Michael Ward, head of the FBI in New Jersey, described Park’s operation as a “virtual crime superstore, with one-stop shopping for a variety of criminal needs.”

For an upfront fee of $5,000 to $7,000, he said, customers got a legitimate Social Security card in someone else’s name, as well as help in obtaining out-of-state driver’s licenses and high credit ratings that together enabled them to carry out a variety of crimes.

I am pretty sure your a wise person Bogart. Pointing your fingers now won't help even a little tiny bit. You can qoute as many things as you like but that don't mean squat. Solution is the best thing. While crying a river in a forum about illegal immigration why not put it down on a spread sheet and submit it to your local representaive for both house and senate. Your pointing out a fraction of a problem in which idiots who does the law can't fix. Fifteen years ago or more when the economy was still at its peak nobody complained of anything. It's not illegal immigration alone smart one. You have crooks and THIEVES in NEW YORK at Wall Street and they stole big time and nobody gives a crap.

The legal immigration might be skewed but WE deserve to be here because we waited in line properly. That was a prize your government payed for taking my pop to fight for your war when your pop chickened out.

I don't talk about my career online as its irrelevant. But it will someday be useful for your future generations. Americans as a whole.
