Laugh along with Christina Romer as she explains how reduction of the size in government will depress our economy in the short term, possibly making high unemployment rates permanent. As exhibit A, she presents a flattering study by the IMF of her economic research and fiscal policies.

She borrows selectively from this study which examines the collective short term effects of tax hikes and spending cuts, referred to as fiscal consolidation or government austerity measures targeted at cutting deficits. The study breaks new ground by selecting a different set of economic examples than previous studies. According to the her exhibit A, previous studies show unequivocally that cuts in government spending have long term and short term expansionary effects on an economy, but those studies are flawed in that they tend to favor examples which support their findings .. ???

Furthermore, her exhibit goes on to say that long term benefits of cuts to govt spending are undisputed, so she focuses on the negative short term effects the study indicates that raising taxes and cutting the size of government would have, ignoring the fact her very own study shows that such negative effects occur primarily when tax hikes are used as an austerity measure(can we even call that austerity?), rather than cuts to government budgets.

And they thought Reagan had the market cornered on voodoo economics. It amazes and offends me that an economics professor needs several politicized studies to figure out that cutting overhead(spending) improves your bottom line, and even with the study, she doesn't understand the results, or feels the need to lie to us about them. This is who Obama put in charge! This is the great oracle who predicted two trillion dollars in new govt. spending would keep unemployment under 8%. I bet you she is the F'n genius who came up with the government's plan to invest in aging vehicles (Cash for Clunkers). Dollars to donuts says she is the person who prolonged the real estate market adjustment by throwing $8000 taxpayer dollars a home at a falling market. I would absolutely love to see the results of any effort this woman ever made to create a business from scratch. She is a failure, a dolt, an ignoramus, a moron, a buffoon, a blithering idiot. It's great to see her return to Berkley, and her vat of Bryers, and get the hell away from our country's purse strings. God help us she is infecting our nation's best and brightest with this poison in her classes on a daily basis.

Spot on. People like Breeze Wood need to learn that creating money out of thin air does not fix anything. We are beginning to feel the effects of the trillions of dollars printed up.

Sorry tr76 but the 07-08 recession is deceased and your partisanship will not alter history - a new one may re-emerge particularly with Republican gains but the recovery is the focus for the present Administration and balancing the budget is the primary objective the liberals have a record of accomplishing.

Breeze, Clinton was a fiscal conservative.

Breeze, don't you know that it's OBVIOUS that you just make your posts up? With absolutely no basis in reality? That your posts are pure fantasy? And that you have no mind for insightful analysis? All you do is make blind statements that are blatantly FALSE? Would it be easier for you to admit to us, now, that you really don't understand this discussion?

Breeze, you really do honestly embarrass yourself in every post. How do you bear the shame, really?

"We are in the middle of the biggest recession in this country's history...we may not come out of it until 2012"
White House Economist Austan Goolsbee, 10/25/2010 on The Daily Show

See, Breeze? You have the White House admitting that the recession did not end a year ago, we are IN THE MIDDLE of it.

Breeze, what we have ended up discussing is the depth of your ignorance. Please, embarrass yourself some more. Dance for us, Breeze, dance for us!

I think he was just too busy chasing tail to bother with the economy. :p

It cracks me up that they are afraid to use the word DEPRESSION -- as if it won't be happening if we don't say it.

Sorry kid, you're facts are way off.
Please site a source next time. While Clinton promised to cut the deficit as part of his campaign in 92', he never said anything about balancing the budget, nor did he have anything to do with it. Aside from being forced to go along with it.

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Balanced_Budget_Amendment

Billy never would have done it without a Republican Congress. They forced him to do so.

It was after Billy left the Executive and the Republicans controlled both Cambers and the Executive the budget and balance of payments were never balanced again.

    Ah what???

Bill Clinton served in office from January 20, 1993 – January 20, 2001
Republicans controlled both houses of Congress from 1994-2006

You might want to do some more fact checking.

Still waiting for you to site your source from your last outrageous blunder.

Breeze, I like your style man. You may be the most clandestine professional troll I've ever seen, and I pride myself on knowledge of the topic. You ever see the movie "Being There" with Peter Sellers? Chance, is that you?

You made me smile. Here is a much better quote; "Those who refuse to learn from history are doomed to repeat it.".

Dont forget your lesson; "More Debt Does Not Equal Lesser Debt...".

Not sure of the above but will include I have many friends.

Not sure either why being referred to as a gal by Mia is sort of a fun thing to think about.

Other than being insidious I at least find Mia's replies entertaining.
