The Democrats may pass the financial overhaul reform bill after all.

Contain the debacle in the Gulf, a few good earnings reports, lower unemployment going into the fall.....the tide may be turning for the midterms - especially with Gingrich now saying he may run for president maybe the electorate will come to their senses.

Remember 94'? That was Gingrich... Remember what happened? Maybe you are too young. If that's the case, let me know and I will fill you in.

Who is kidding who? Yes that was Gingrich in 94 and the same one today - and apparently still their hero. His first episode was in the late 80s.

The off-year elections historically favor the political party not in control of the executive branch - for the Democrats the trend is not in their favor but having 94* to look back on very well could bring new light to the contest for a reversal of fortunes this country deservedly could use.

Gingrich is the Republican's only hope. They need someone who has been somewhat of an outsider to step in and be a fresh face. Nobody else in that party can get elected in 2012.

Gingrich is our best option, not our only hope. The rest seem to be more of the same, except perhaps for Jindal who is just too young.

The Democrats keep riding our economy into the dirt and you'll find we will elect just about anyone without a (D) next to their name.

Exactly right. Both parties have received money from the same donors. Pause and make an application with that. This means the problem needs to be dealt with at higher levels than (D) or (R).

He's the guy that balanced the budget and left us with a Surplus remember??? Clinton took credit for it. The Contract with America and Republican control of the house was the catalyst!

A pity you are so naive - after 40 years of Democratic rule in the House incurring only nominal budget deficits the Republicans in 8 years were voted out of office including Gingrich after fostering the largest ever "Great Recession of 2008", equaled only by the 1930s Depression......nothing to worry about if Gingrich is their nominee.

Clinton's executive branch balanced the budget and began paying down the deficit......Bush and the Republican Congress, the largest budget deficits in the nations history. PERIOD.

Um, 9.5% unemployment rate and 17% real unemployment are NOT "good things".

If the Democrats have spent $3 Trillion dollars and the economy is STILL in the dumps, it's reasonable to conclude that the Democrats can't fix it.

And look at it this way - historically, the economy has always been healthier when the President and the Congressional Majority are two different parties.

    "No. There is another" :)

What we see now has been years in the making. At the heart of it all isn't even Democrats or Republicans. The blame lies solely with the people of America for demanding cheap products and thus forcing manufacturing jobs overseas. But the people will never accept that, and the blame pointing is bound to go from R to D back to R then D and so forth for many years to come.

Although, I do believe that Bush and his Republican congress could have done more when this mess was reaching its boiling point. Obama I think has done everything within reason. He got a raw deal. McCain would have gotten the same raw deal. My gut feeling going into 2008 was that either one of them would be a 1 term president because they wouldn't be able to handle the pile of $hit that Bush left behind, or at least chose not to start dealing with when he had the chance.

If the Dems hadn't spent that money we would be in a full blown depression right now. That is a tough figure to look at (although the bailout money will be recouped and then some), but it's even tougher to imagine food stations set up in your local high school gym to feed a high percentage of people in your community. That is exactly what we would be looking at. So I'm not going to bash the Dems for that spending. The Republicans would have done the exact same thing to prevent that.

Palin absolutely 100% guarantees an Obama victory, if that is who you are talking about. I'm not even sure Gingrich should consider her for the VP spot again. She is such a target and IMO was responsible for McCain losing so big.

I'll grant you it has been years in the making, and that shipping all of our manufacturing overseas was not good for the country. Realistically, all I can do is look at the causes, look at what actions are being taken right now, and determine whether they are helping or hurting. That is where you and I disagree.

    To make the situation worse.

I haven't heard an economist substantiate that position yet. I've heard some argue that TARP(50% Bush, 50% Obama) prevented a depression, but as far as the Stimulus is concerned, that was basically our 100% Democratic leadership f*cking us up the ass.

Again, what you are referring to is TARP.

Again, TARP was originated by an ex-Goldman Sachs executive advising a Republican president and passed through a congress ruled by the Democratic party. To not bash the Democrats for their trillion dollar kickback to special interests program called "Stimulus" requires extreme partisanship.

I love how focused the left is on Palin. Shes not even running. If she were running, I doubt Gingrich wouldn't select her.

It is odd isn't it? No one on the other side of reality cares about Palin. Why the left is so hell bent on attacking and maligning her with what American wants or does not want is beyond me.

But Obama took advantage of that attitude. He told the American people what many of them wanted to hear - "I'll end the war in Iraq and Afghanistan, close Gitmo, restore transparency, etc." Absolutely nobody with any experience believed him. Instead, Obama took advantage of the lack of experience of the 18- to 35-year old bracket and hit them with a storm of bull. They were shorn like sheep.

I'm absolutely not surprised that Obama hasn't kept his biggest promises. My experience in life and business tells me that he was telling lies when he made those promises.

No no no. Look at history - it's almost always best for the country fiscally when the President and the Congressional majority are two different parties, because it absolutely demands that the parties work together. Look at President Reagan and the Democratic congress, or President Clinton and the Republican congress. There is absolutely no doubt that the country would be much better off today if McCain was President, if for no other reason than he's a different party than the Congressional majority.

No. That is a lie. There is absolutely no way you can back up that statement and even the Democrats are backing away. You cannot show me any math that backs up that claim. All that $3 Trillion did was artificially inflate the GDP so that the economy looks better ON PAPER ONLY!!!!

Want an example? Were were told that we needed to spend all that money to prevent the unemployment rate from going above 8.5%. Well, the unemployment rate has been hovering near just below 10% for the past year and real unemployment is around 17%.

In reality, more banks have failed in 2010 than in any other year in history:
    FDIC Failed Bank List
That's 264 bank failures in 2010. Why? Because Obama only bailed out the major banks, and deliberately left the smaller banks to flounder and fail. This way, they would be cheaply acquired by the larger banks. This is what $3 Trillion have bought Obama's lobbyists.

Is this Change You Can Believe In? Sorry if it's an Inconvenient Truth. But the real question you have to ask yourself is how much of these bank's advertising dollars are going towards CNN, FOX, Bloomberg, MSNBC, etc., who are curiously not reporting on this story?

Whenever someone claims that the money needed to be spent or we'd be in a full-blown depression, they are engaging in dishonest rhetoric. You can't show me any math that validates that. All that $3 Trillion did was make things worse. Want more proof? Did you see last week's G-20 meeting when Germany, GB, China, etc were all telling the USA that deficit spending MUST stop or Obama will place the US in the middle of an economic train wreck? Did you see how the biggest banks and most experienced world economists were criticizing Obama's past and planned spending? Does Obama's lack of any real experience terrify you? For God's sake, Obama has never managed a thing in his life. He didn't even run his own campaign.

And, oh, I am a small business and in the past year my taxes have gone up. According to Biden, that makes me a "wise-ass", right? The sign of the Administration's incompetence is that instead of treating Obama's attack on small business as a financial problem, they are treating it as a public relations problem instead. Doesn't that make you sick?

No, I was making a joke from Star Wars. It worries me that you have no sense of humor. But I suspect that you only consider potential presidential candidates to be people you see in the headlines, right? But then you aren't known for your research, are you? Aren't our best Presidents all former Governors?

And I would think twice if I were you if you think that Obama will win the Democratic nomination for President for 2012. I'm an Independent voter and would vote for Hillary in a second. That's the difference between us - I will always vote for the best candidate regardless of party. You, you are a sad tool that mindlessly votes for the democratic party, being used like a dirty washcloth. You'd vote for Dracula if he ran as a Democrat and find some way to rationalize it ("he works very well at night"). You think there are no such thing as independent voters.

The time for excuses is past, DDD.

Because the far left is not driven by compassion, they are filled with hatred. And they desperately need someone to hate, and if no one is available they will hate who they are told to hate. That's why Hitler and his socialist agenda was able to easily manipulate the hatred of the left and use them like puppets.

That's odd Corwin, most everyone else on the planet equates Fascism as a religious / business dominated conservative style of government emulated by the Republican party and certainly not the Party of Franklyn Delano Roosevelt. Or that there were as many liberals in the NAZI party as Jews.

Obviously :) But people do not want to hear that. THey want to believe that things will be great once Obama gets out. Then 4 yrs after that, same dream.

Afterall, the heroes (tv hosts) never discuss the true issues, so they must not exist.

Pretty annoying to see people run around in circles.

Makes you realize how easy it is for the fed to keep on banking.

Another feather in the cap for the majority - their progress towards solvency through the Great Recession is still on track. When will the Republicans see the light of day?

Oh and also, those who still might like to vote for Hillary may get their chance after Obama's second term in office expires in 2016.

What are you smoking???? When did we discuss Fascism? Who is "most everyone"? Are you seriously hallucinating or what?

Fascism is a cross between Capitalism and Socialism. But this conversation had nothing to do with Fascism because during WW2 while Italy was Fascist, Germany was a dictatorship. Do you know the difference?

Oh. isn't Obama to blame for the failed oil spill in the Gulf?

Amazing how wrong you can be, BW. This time, you are so wrong I'm surprised you don't feel embarrassed. But please, go ahead and make up more lies to post.

Not a big deal Corwin - my definition is similar to a city utility where the citizens are the owners but the directors set the rates and pay their own salaries. However it is not many that do not equate Hitler and Fascism as a single entity. Hitler was nothing but a thug and suggesting any legitimacy associated with the individual for any purposes is suspect for cross examination. i.e. Hitler and his socialist agenda.... - - never existed, he was the curator and founder of Fascism.

BP has not fired Tony Hayward the CEO and now that the well "seems" plugged just for keeping that guy around and among all the other reasons, they should be screwed to the wall and buried alive.
