Don't you guys ever get sick of touting doom and gloom? You got it, be happy with it. Some of us live in a place called "optimism".

Oregon has Florida beat in this contest, being that we are so kind and liberal here. I think Oregon has the longest running record of unemployment that matches its record of the highest minimum wage of any state (except one other?)

Michigan is the highest for unemployment currently - I wonder what could have brought that on?

You post 3 pics and ask
Reminds me of putting 3 axes into a room and asking the Irishman to take his pick.

I find it shocking sometimes how people can troll this forum for years with thousands of posts which are nothing but nonsense and people still take them seriously.

It's time to update my ignore list. If you don't want to converse intelligently and coherently then I don't want to see what you have to say as it's a waste of my time.

I'm not sure I understand what you are saying? Are you agreeing with Bogart or not?

1982 was pretty bad due to inflation and high unemployment for many years. Although the unemployment is almost as bad as it was for 1982 already (because the numbers are cooked now), we don't have the double digit inflation yet and the high unemployment has happened fairly recently, whereas in the 1980's we had a double dip recession so it was more of a "chronic" condition. Although we do have a major depreciation in the stock market, housing prices which has more of a direct impact on consumer spending unemployment also will soon no doubt will be worse than 1982, so in a few more months it will be much worse than 1982. California already has the worst unemployment since the great depression. The rest of the U.S will follow shortly. Stay tuned. :)

I'm gonna assume you were not referring to myself. I've been here since 1998, and I'd hardly call my contribution to this community trolling.

    :p
Is it possible to ignore oneself? If so, I would certainly second your decision to update your list.

What I am saying is that a great many of the people that talk out of their asses here were either not alive then, or are way too young to have any concept of how much worse things were, and how much worse they could be.

In other words, if people find 2009 a "Great Depression", what in the heck would they have said in 82? Hell in 92 I took a 50% pay cut to stay employed. Things have been and can always be much worse.

Some of us don't spend our lives wishing for doom and gloom. We adjust, adapt, and move on.

I'm not worried. My most of my money comes from the government and I am VERY optimistic it is not going to stop coming or getting any smaller. Joblessness is only for people who work!:D

92 was a mild recession by historical standards. I know people will talk about their ancedotal evidence of how bad it was, but it actually was very minor compared to history. In fact 82 wasn't even as bad as some recessions we had BEFORE the great depression. If this recession lasts 2 years (much longer than the last 10 we have had, right now we are tied with 75 and 82 as the longest post great depression) we still are far behind many other major recessions/depressions in length in the last 150 years. One recession during the great depression (a recession in a depression) was 36 months straight, but we had one in the 1870's last 5 years straight, a couple others in the late 1800's over 3 years, one in 1912 that lasted 2 years and a couple others around that time period last almost 2 years.
