OK. I am actually confused by this news. Is this a marketing strategy by Microsoft, United States Airforce is too dumb or is this is just a diversion?

How can a military division use something like windows in their systems and call and I quote "In a continuing effort to meet emerging threats, Air Force officials initiated the service-wide upgrade of operating systems to Windows 7"

I am not a windows hater, linux lover or a apple fan boy. I am just saying wouldn't it be wise if the military used something more secure and stable than windows 7.

    What do you guys think?

I imagine this is just for their offices, they have to do paperwork just like everyone else, but for actual mission critical stuff, no way

So what do you think is actually safer? Mac, Linux?

Im sure the military is not stupid and they do evaluate the options. Believe it or not Windows is not as insecure as most people thing, its the users that make stupid things with it like installing pirated software that contains troyans or downloading things they should not.

I have never ever seem a problem with a Windows OS that is updated and where the users has common sense when using it. I did see Linux servers cracked even with all updates to date so it really depends on what you consider safe or unsafe. Also there is no point in having a OS that is not compatible with your hardware or other softwares, that would mean a big loss in productiviy which is what most business look, same for the air force.

It's ok using WIndows on the base end machines since the network itself is pretty secure.

Pentagon use OpenBSD servers, and thats considered to be world most secure OS.
