Selling Unique Video Site w/ Automatic Video Finding

I bought this site over a year ago, it was originally a wallpaper site but to me it felt like a better fit being a daily video site.

The entire site is custom built as a one off, I will not sell or reuse this code at all.

Regularly scraps several sites for videos and stores information about them. You can then log into the administration side and view a list of these videos and preview/add/ignore each video. When you manually are sorting through the videos you are able to enter your own title for the video. There is also the option to randomly add a video from the list using the scrapped title for the video. I just set this up a few days ago when I realized I'd never have enough time to actually go through videos regularly, the command is being called several times a day via cron to regularly add new videos. You can also schedule videos to go live for future dates as well. Screen shot of admin area attached



There is a +/- rating system built in.

The site also sends each video to tumblr - dailyomg[dot]tumblr[dot]com - currently has 55 followers and regularly gets reblogs/likes as these videos appear in the search results. Currently the videos are hot linked, I had just sent the video thumbnail in the past with a link to watch the video which got a lot more clicks to the site. I decided to directly link the video to help increase exposure on tumblr instead. This can be modified however someone wants it to work.

Site also has a facebook page - facebook[dot]com[forward slash]GnarlyVideos - Don't ask why I gave it the gnarly videos link, I am not sure myself. 120 followers but I have for the most part neglected to post videos (last one was May) so I am sure with some love it could be a much better source of traffic.

Of course all pages are social friendly (open-graph meta tags) which allows for shares/likes to properly show thumbnails etc.

Using wahoha for click exchange, it has bursts here and there but for the most part I wasn't too impressed with this traffic. I would recommend another service or just normal adds instead.

Using disqus for comments.

Has a twitter page - @dailyomgvids - which was more or less a flop but I don't personally use twitter so have no idea what people find appealing on there. This autoposts with some random twitter app I found, seems to work fine.

Site generates valid RSS feeds and site map feeds although neither are actually linked from the site currently. Site map has been submitted to google and most videos make it into the index within a few days, current stats from the tools are: 422 submitted, 360 URLs in web index

Search traffic has slowly been growing, 4500 impressions in the search results from google in the last month according to web master tools.

Current traffic is a bit low, this is mainly my fault for neglecting the site for a long time. Since the autopost has been setup traffic seems to be rising again.

Site was developed using CodeIgnitor, a PHP MVC framework so things are separated quite well.

Hosting Requirements:

• ffmpeg php extension (thumbnail generation)
• curl php extension
• MySQL
• PHP 5.2+
• Ability to add cron jobs
• 4.5G of disk space currently used, you will want more than this

Bandwidth varies widely as some videos are tiny while others large and it all depends what happens to get popular that month. I've had anywhere from 1G to 9G bandwidth in a month, nothing most hosts would have no problem handling.

I highly recommend you are experienced with PHP or have someone who is, mainly that when sites change (hasn't yet, but at some point they will) the scrapper for that particular site will need to be updated.

I am selling because I have spread myself too thin, all my projects are suffering because I can't properly run them all at the same time.

I am willing to host the site for 60 days after sale is complete until you can get things setup. I will help set things up but make sure you have the extensions required OR have the ability to install them yourself.

one question: you said that the script scrapped videos from various site, are those videos then hosted on your server? 

 

Yes, the videos once they are selected to be on the site are downloaded to the server, have their thumbnail created and then become live.

Originally I had planned to just embed the players from various sites, but not all the sites checked for videos have branded players and I didn't want to leech bandwidth while providing them nothing. It would be relatively easy to modify the logic to do this but I would recommend against it for this reason.

 

what is the reserve?

 

I won't give out the reserve but it is very close to what I paid for the site which was 200. At the reserve amount I'll get essentially nothing for the time I put in developing the site.
