Post any unique tips you have. Here is a few from me I picked up from the forums and through experience: 1. Write a simple script that rotates different ad color formats associated with channels so you can see what types of ads are getting the highest ctr. I rotate 5-10 different styles on each of my spots for a couple days and choose the best performing one for that spot. I think this is much easier and more efficient than testing out ads individually. 2. Use horizontal link units below your header that blend well. A lot of people underestimate what you can earn with properly blended link units. Some sites make 50-60% of their earnings from link units. 3. Use competing ads filter to filter out ads can increase your revenue by removing those low ctr ads which are continually shown to your visitors again and again
Also for link units, generally I found that the 4 link unit had a higher ctr than the 5 Another technique I ran across was a script detecting the visitors browser and showing a box at the top of your web page suggesting that they switch to FireFox: with your referral link of course. There was a script called explorerdestroyer, I dont know if it is around anymore but it was pretty spammy. I'm sure a clean implementation would be fine with TOS. I personally do not use this method, has anyone tried it out?
asrep is a great script for analyzing which pages and which referral keywords are producing the highest CTR for your adsense ads. If you pair this with hittail.com, you'll be able to see other related keywords you could compete for if you created additional optimized content on that topic.
