Unique New Software Application + Site

    The site is www.winboggle.com

I am not sure if I want to sell this site. But I would like to open the floor for offers. If I don't get one that I like, I will market and monetize it myself.

    Here's the story:
I have spent quite a while developing a standalone Java application called winboggle. You enter a Boggle puzzle and it outputs all of the words contained in the puzzle. I coded it from the ground up (originally it started out as a way for me to learn GUI programming.. then I decided to make it into a full-fledged Shareware application). The program works with Windows, Mac OS X, and Linux (and potentially with other OS's and devices that run Java... but I haven't tested those).

It can be used for both online (to win every time or potentially to advertise something in your name at the top of the high score list) and offline (to offer the advantages of an online game to offline players.. mainly you see which words you missed so you can get them next time).

I finished the site (all hand-coded and designed) last night with some intensive integration into Paypal (also a learning experience). It would be trivial to change the Paypal account payment is going to.

Included in the sale would be all source code and rights to resale for the application and site.

No advertising has been done yet. No traffic yet. And no sales yet. (You need traffic for sales :))

If you have any questions, go ahead and ask away. If not, I'd like to hear your offers.

Honestly, I haven't decided yet. I am still working on crunching the numbers.

I forgot to say that the site also contains a database that stores the data of everyone who purchases (email, name, address, time purchased). They are inserted once paypal sends the "Payment Complete" message to the server. This way you can track who gets the upgrades, have a mailing list, etc. The server also sends the purchaser a thank you email message and a link to the download again in case they missed it the first time around.

also interested in a ballpark figure of what you're looking to get..

Also, are updates a neccessity for the product? IE: could a non-java programmer run and maintain the site for a while?

After thinking about it, I'm looking for at least somewhere in the XXXXs. Any lower and I'll go about advertising developing it myself.

There aren't any updates required, in fact I can't really think about anything that you would add. So yes, a non-java programmer could definitely run and maintain the site.

Too high an asking price I guess. Mid $$$ could be more reasonable.

How long do you estimate the lifetime of the software would be? How would it be tested for new versions of the Java platform etc?

Stanley - I'm open to offers.

Kovacs - I'd estimate that it will be viable for a long time. Generally new versions of Java have backwards compatibility so it should work in that regard for a long time to come.
