    Hiya All

Would like to share some unique link building tips and opportunities. All feedback welcome! Now we are all used to run of the mill tactics, so these are a little more off-beat, but definitely worth investigating.

Closely track popular news sites that allow comments and try to be one of the first commenters on breaking stories. Quote an URL on your site that elaborates or offers more insight on your point of view. This works particularly well with political and other socially relevant stories. The only drawback is that you need relevant source material to refer to. Even if the comments are nofollow (or don't even allow hyperlinking at all) the displayed URL alone will get plenty of copy-and-paste traffic from big websites.

The value of social networks can't be emphasized enough, here the trick is to get in early and always mention your URL in your username or account profile. A new kid on the block to investigate is buzzfuse.com

Create a wallpaper or screensaver branded with your company info and submit it to all the free wallpaper/screensaver galleries. The vast majority allow you to link back to your original source or a profile site.

If your website offers some type of product, send out free products to high profile bloggers to review your products. They'll usually do a very good write up and link back to you.

Donate time/services/products to non profit organizations or charities in return for a link on their websites. They'll be only to happy to reciprocate, and could be the way to get that elusive .org or .edu link.

Buy domains or sites that already have existing links and 301 redirect them to your site. Naughty!

ID a site you'd like a link from. Send them a special version of your homepage that shows a homepage link to them or links to a story about them deeper in your site. Then ask for a link or encourage them to link to the story on your site.

Research your competitors history by performing a wildcard search on them (http://*sitename.com). This not only gives you their backlinks but also where they're being mentioned and talked about.

    Become a DMOZ editor.....

    That's it for now folks!

    ;)
