Unique articles for directories or my website?

    Hi there,

I've been writing some articles based on the topics of my website, and was just wondering some things....

Would the unique content be best placed on the article directories with a link to my website, or would it be more beneficial if I put them on my own website?

Would I be able to put it on the directory sites and my website too? Or will search engines frown upon me for not having unique content?

    Thanks for any help.

    Matt

Here's what I do and recommend:

Write a unique article for your website. Write a second article on the same subject. Submit the second article to article directories, with a link to the article on your site, and your homepage.

I would NOT suggest submitting any article you have on your site.

    Hope this helps.

I wouldnt do repeat articles either, but what i would do is make an article call it part 1, submit that to ezinearticles, with a link in your resource box to part 2 of the article which you display on your site.

I think that unique articles should only be placed on your site. That does bring in traffic because people use different terms to search and the more the unique articles you have, the better chances you got to get more traffic for unique keywords ;)

If you want to publish the same article on article websites then submit your articles weeks or months after you have already published it on your website. There is not any way to tell the search engines where the content originally belongs but it's best to submit your unique content months after it has been published on your site first, you might wana use the title of your article in your anchor text (incoming links).

Google keeps getting smarter and I heard it'll start docking points for articles that are "spun".

But the tip about publishing your article on another site sounds like a good one. But even if you do decide to delay the article I'd probably spin it up a bit.

That's true also, make sure your article is spidered and cached before submitting the similar ones that should also act a little as teasers.

I agree with the others. You do not want to have the exact same article or your site and submit it to the directories.

The two part article is a great way to go.

Somethjing i have done with a good amount of success is write an article and submit it to the directories. Then I take the article and cut into three sections at least 200 words each and make blog posts with them. Of course you don't you the blurbs word for word. Change it up a bit.

I would fully endorse the suggestions of Adam, and most article submissions sites will not allow you to submit an article which is already on any other site. What i did once was to make a two series article with first part released on article submitting site and with a link to second part of the article on my site. It worked well

I would rather prefer having all the articles on own site as ultimately it does increase pages of your site.
You can also consider pasting of links of your site on social book marking sites

If you have unique content just put it on your site but still if it's a good and interesting article you can't stop people to link to your article or post it on their site which might results to supplemental results. Your site would not be penalized for duplicate content because search engine knows the owner of the article.
